Giving blood - can I be sat up?

I am giving blood for the 2nd time today. Last time I was sitting in the chair waiting for them to start and a member of staff came over and said something "oh ho, back you go!" And tipped the chair back so it was reclining.

I saw after that everyone in the donation room was reclining too and I guess it is in case you feel faint?

Only, I have history which means that being on my back in front of a room of people esp in a medical setting is v difficult. I didn't have a panic attack but I had quite a nasty moment when he did that.

Can I ask them to leave the chair upright?

Tell them how you feel and ask them? In my experience, they do tip the chairs back, but maybe they can accommodate your request? Have a chat with the person who does the pre donation check.

It's been years since I was able to donate, and yes I could sit up.

Thanks! I am in the donor centre waiting room now so will ask. I don't really want to get into why with them, but hopefully they will be okay with it!
