No cake / biscuits - need help!

I’ve cut out all chocolate, biscuit, cakes and sweets. I was reaching for them constantly and it had to stop. I know if I have one I’ll keep eating them so decided total avoidance was the only way. So today is day 15. I’m getting bored with it now and I want a biscuit! Also haven’t lost any weight (I know it’s v early days but still 😭). Does anyone have any tips to keep me motivated?

Get fizzy water and steep a fruit teabag in it for 5 mins. It tastes sweet but isn't actually and fills you up. Eat protein. Boil an egg as a snack or have lots of bacon strips cooked and chopped into squares to pretend they ate frazzles. If all else fails and you HAVE to have something sweet get a tub of sugar free jelly and douse it in double cream - not too often though! Also brush your teeth and get out of kitchen (my failing as I work from home in the kitchen and keep browsing the cupboard out of boredom)

I work from home too and do the cupboard-browsing tooBlush Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll try the fizzy water and teabag, never heard of that before, sounds good!

It's even better with vodka😉 but maybe leave that to the weekend.

GottenGottenGotten · 20/03/2019 08:59

Someone I know was telling me that carbonated water has been shown to increase appetite. I don't know if it is true, but it might be worth looking into before you go down that route.

Maybe try freezing grapes, I've heard people say that it gets rid of sweet cravings.

TipseyTorvey · 20/03/2019 10:45

Carbonated water just fills me up though. When I first gave up sugar it was a godsend. I wonder if your study related to people who drink sugar free fizzy drinks with chemicals that mimic sugar? I have read that before so I never touch them.

GottenGottenGotten · 20/03/2019 10:49

Tipsey, no, he said that they looked into carbonated drinks with sugar, with sweetener and just carbonated water, and that all increased appetite.

I wouldn't call it 'my' study, as I said, it's something I was told but don't know how accurate it is.

SallyWD · 20/03/2019 10:57

How about a few squares of dark chocolate? I love 85%. It's not very sweet, you only need a little to feel satisfied and its actually very good for you!

CabbageHippy · 20/03/2019 10:59

it doesn't sound nice but I make an orange cake with chickpeas which is pretty good for a very healthy cake alternative - if anyone wants the receipt i'll try & remember to pop it up later

Unbelievable18 · 20/03/2019 11:06

You could try baking your own healthier replacements for biscuits, I have a good repertoire of oat and fruit cookies which are much lower in sugar than shop bought / commercial ones.

twinkle999 · 20/03/2019 12:12

Try the twinnings flavoured green tea - there is salted caramel, cherry bakewell. Also fruit and yoghurt a good sweet treat.

twinkle999 · 20/03/2019 12:13

She says she is not eating cakes or biscuits so there is no point is suggesting dark chocolate or “healthy” cakes or biscuits.

hidinginthenightgarden · 20/03/2019 12:48

Milk works for me. When I can’t stop snacking I have a small glass of semi- skimmed.

BlueChampagne · 20/03/2019 12:52

Nuts, seeds and dried fruit?

BlueMerchant · 20/03/2019 12:54

I eat nakd bars. Feels like treat but most of them are also 1 of your 5 a day. Cocoa orange one is my favorite.

3littlerabbits · 20/03/2019 13:08

Thanks for all these. Even writing the post and reading your replies is distracting me from the cupboards! I’m avoiding all cakes, chocolate, biscuits. Can’t trust myself with one or two squares of chocolate or homemade biscuits Blush I’m such an addict. Strangely drinking water, tea or anything does distract me for a bit too. I tried peanuts last week but think I went a bit overboard on them...! All suggestions really appreciated x

Buy some really good fruit or a posh healthy ready meal.

RockinHippy · 20/03/2019 13:20

Plain rice cakes sprinkled with freeze dried raspberries are a great alternative to a biscuit or cake

BlueChampagne · 20/03/2019 13:22

Oatcakes?

PinkHeart5914 · 20/03/2019 13:26

I drink sparkling water or diet cola, feels me up and fizziness feels like a treat.

Pots of 10 calorie jelly are good

Cracker with salted butter on it

EssentialHummus · 20/03/2019 13:34

The main things I’d do are 1) don’t have it in the house if you wfh and 2) have one “cheat day” a week. I do 5:2 and it’s much more sustainable long-term if you know that sometimes you can have biscuits etc. And I tend to act in moderation as a result.

Ariela · 20/03/2019 13:47

Frozen peas are impossible to eat loads of

radioactiveimagination · 20/03/2019 15:41

Beware of nakd bars, they are actually quite high in sugar. The choc orange on is 145 kcal per bar. That's more than a 2-finger kitkat!

twinkle999 · 20/03/2019 16:37

I hear you OP - I am more successful at abstinence than moderation unfortunately so I don’t feel just having a small amount of chocolate or one cheat day would help me.

edgen2019 · 20/03/2019 16:44

3little -buy yourself a bottle of reduced sugar Ribena and make yourself a hot drink, it works for me.

TodoDoingDone · 20/03/2019 19:18

Nuts? Or peanut butter? I eat it straight out of the jar, but I hear it can be put on rice cakes. Ah, or mix it into Greek yoghurt. Greek yoghurt with walnuts is also good.
