Horrible job interview

Just had a interview with my local hospital it was a voluntary role three people on the panel. I didn't expect to be grilled so much and kept saying erm sorry could you repeat that because I couldn't understand them.

They didn't really talk to me much other than asking the questions it was so awkward.

How do I even come back from this? I feel awful.

dont get down till you know the result. you might actually have done pretty well. also it could be down to their poor interview technique rather than yours, so dont bash yourself up

I always take a horrible interview as a sign that I'd be better off not working there. If they can't even interview you nicely...

That sounds a lot for a volunteer position!

@SexNotJenga good point!

I feel so sick don't know how I will ever get a job again if I can't even get a volunteering role.

Interview is a two way street.
Not all volunteering positions are worth having.

How many applications/interviews have you had so far? I try to think 5 applications for 1 interview, 5 interviews for one offer. (that's applying for things I'm appropriately qualified/experienced for)

It's not you, its them. They didn't give you a decent interview. Don't lose confidence because of them.

A good interview should get the best out of you, not grill you until mercilessly you get nervous and mess up.

Let us know how you get on. If you're unsuccessful you can ask for feedback to help you in future interviews.

TipseyTorvey · 19/03/2019 15:51

Do not take this to heart! I'll bet they already had someone internal lined up for the role so were just going through the motions. It's terrible practice but happens all the time just annoying and a waste of your time. Try to write down as many of the questions as you can remember and think of good answers to them in a calmer moment. Interviews are something you get better with after lots of practice so actually see this as a trial for the job you really want. Chin up and shake it off!!

I'd wait until you hear the result and then ask for feedback; their perception may have been different to your own.

I had an interview like this, it felt like they were trying to catch me out with everything I felt so uncomfortable. They rang me when I got home to say I hadn't got the job but offering me a job on their bank. I think they had someone else lined up internally so gave me a hard time even though I was more than suitable. Don't worry op.
