What would you call this?

A sports top (trousers to match)
It's just got a small zip at the top, so not a track suit top.
Ds's mate looked at me like I had 2 heads. I called it a sweater, which I know it's not, but I couldn't think of a word for it.
We're not local, I have no idea what they would call it

TheHolySmirk · 19/03/2019 12:07

Well I'd call it a tracksuit top, zip or not.

Palominoo · 19/03/2019 12:10

Lounge top?

Loungewear top?

Leisure top?

Sports top?

Plexie · 19/03/2019 12:10

What sort of fabric? Sweatshirt?

Thisisthelaststraw · 19/03/2019 12:11

We call it a half-zip

chandylier · 19/03/2019 13:02

Nylon type fabric

chandylier · 19/03/2019 13:02

So would you say 'pick your half zip up off the floor'?

OP posts:
steppemum · 19/03/2019 13:04

I'd say - pick your top up off the floor!

PointlessUsername · 19/03/2019 13:04

I would still call it a tracksuit.

TheHolySmirk · 19/03/2019 13:04

In that sort of case, I'd say 'pick your jumper/top off the floor'.

LIZS · 19/03/2019 13:04

Shell suit!

Starch · 19/03/2019 13:06

They’re called half zips in fashion videos, so I guess those people would say ‘pick your half zip off the floor’

Bigonesmallone3 · 19/03/2019 13:06

A jumper

Drogosnextwife · 19/03/2019 13:08

Yeah I would say jumper.

kgeal3 · 19/03/2019 13:10

I'd say tracksuit top or track top

chandylier · 19/03/2019 13:18

Jumper/sweater I would think of as knitted

OP posts:
Drogosnextwife · 19/03/2019 13:20

Yup, I just call everything a jumper haha, if I had to pick something else it would be tracksuit top.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 19/03/2019 13:33

Track top

SirVixofVixHall · 19/03/2019 13:35

Tracksuit top, if it has matching trousers, sweatshirt if not.

TheHolySmirk · 19/03/2019 13:36

I really don't think most people will struggle to understand you if you say jumper.

It's not like you're calling it a carrot or something.

chandylier · 19/03/2019 14:41

I thought most people would be ok with sweater/jumper/sweatshirt
Just wondered why saying sweater was so strange!
The kid actually repeated the word sweater with a very confused look

OP posts:
SrSteveOskowski · 19/03/2019 15:35

Nylon with matching pants? Shock It's a shellsuit.

picklemepopcorn · 19/03/2019 15:48

If it's a young person, they may not be familiar with sweater. It's regional.

It would probably be sweatshirt or hoody in my house. Regardless of hood.

CluedoAddict · 19/03/2019 16:08

I would call it a trackie top. I don't know anyone who says sweater it's a jumper if you mean a woolly thing.

MaMaMaMySharona · 19/03/2019 16:20

Assuming you mean something like this? zip top

I'd call it a top or sweater

Thisisthelaststraw · 19/03/2019 17:39

If it was “pick up your...” I would say top or jumper. But if dd was saying she bought it she’d say “I bought a new half-zip” or I might say “why don’t you wear your black half-zip?” So the half-zip is to be specific about the top type but if specifics aren’t needed then just too/jumper.
