Hi Mumsnet Brains, quick question before offices open. Very very roughly, conveyancing costs for selling a bog standard house for £200k and buying another for £260,000? For the PIL. Thanks!

Hi, not sure if this is too late now, but I recently paid c.£1500 for the sale of a leasehold flat and c.£2500 for the purchase of a freehold house. That included all the land registry and search fees etc. and any work the mortgage lender required but not the stamp duty. In the greater London/home counties area (it might be cheaper elsewhere in the country), with a small-ish firm of local solicitors who are part of the conveyancing quality scheme (would highly recommend you go for someone who is accredited under this scheme as there are a few dodgy internet only firms out there whose work is not certified to the same standard).

You might find it slightly cheaper if both the sale and purchase are freehold (as leasehold adds some work for the solicitor) and also if there's no mortgage as again adds a little work.
