How do I make the most of my day off?

I have a day off next week - all to myself! I am so excited. I usually work 3 days a week but needed to be in work on a particular day for a meeting so I've booked DD an extra day at nursery as they don't let you swap days ... meaning I have a whole day off all to myself! This hasn't happened since before she was born.

I don't want to waste it and spend the day at home doing housework or watching telly ... please, tell me what I could do to treat myself but without spending much money and to enjoy my midweek day off. All ideas welcome Grin

I'm in the same position tomorrow. I'm going to the gym, the dog will get a very long walk and then I have no idea so following!

IHeartKingThistle · 18/03/2019 14:23

I go to the gym straight from drop off, otherwise I waste an hour when I get home. Then I've got loads of time left and I've achieved something.

Doesn't have to be the gym of course!

I'd be looking on local discount sites, Groupon etc for a discounted pamper day. Hope you have a lovely day whatever you choose to do.

Go for a nice walk at a local beauty spot, browse in the library, visit a local museum or gallery, go for a swim/gym/class etc

Gym is a good idea! I used to love les mills classes but can't manage to get there in the evening now. I will see if there are morning slots

Go for a walk or a swim.
meet a friend for coffee.
Go round the shops even if just window shopping or browsing, you dont have to buy.
Have a nap.

I had three days like that last year due to changes in holiday rules meaning I needed to use up some random days. It was lovely! I made myself do an hour's housework so I didn't feel too guilty that everyone else was at work/school then on one I went for a long walk and lunch in a café, one day I went for a long swim (adult only session - bliss!) and lunch in a café and the other I went clothes shopping and lunch in a café - see the common theme? Another thing I did once when my birthday fell on a work day was to go to the cinema on my own, watch a film that wasn't suitable for the kids and which DH wouldn't have wanted to see and pigged out on ice cream and sweets all to myself! Basically do something that you couldn't do with kids in tow (or that they'd moan about if you did). Enjoy yourself!

I had this recently and booked a facial and massage and then went shopping. I had a lovely day but spent a fortune!!

I agree you need a plan otherwise you can easily waste the day!

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 18/03/2019 17:01

My ideal day would be to head to a large shopping centre and have a good nose around all the shops and have a quiet coffee.

EvaHarknessRose · 18/03/2019 17:26

I used to walk over the hills into a local city, have a nice lunch and then catch the bus back.

Diorissimo1985 · 18/03/2019 18:50

I definitely think I could stretch to coffee in town - coffee on my days off is usually at playgroup and is, quite frankly, incredibly non relaxing!

I might swing by the library on the way and choose (at leisure) a nice book to read, with said coffee!

Ooh I love these days. I get about 3 a year and do the same thing each time. 1) go to town early and buy a new top/make up counter trial or something after much mooching with no-one moaning they're tired/need a wee/hate everything 2)have early lunch alone with a glass of prosecco and a hello type magazine 3) come home and put on a female centric movie e.g The favourite (desperately waiting for it to come onto sky or something) but basically something DH or the kids would never countenance. 4)paint toe nails without someone needing something 2 nails in. Play on mumsnet in between. Basically speak to no-one all day!
