Who can I talk to?

My brain is fizzing just now with that everything that this middle-of-life 40-something stage brings - family, work, home life, the usual daily responsibilities, the 'mental load' stuff...also I'm trying to develop my own freelance work alongside a PT job and family life and have most of the responsibility in our household for money, budgeting etc.

I feel like I need to TALK about all of this - and ask questions, get some advice, basically offload my brain and get some clarity on things which are just floating around up there as half-finished ideas. Or things which I could just forget about if I got them off my chest!

But who to speak to? Not DH - we do need to talk more, that's a whole other thread probably, but I feel like I need an independent view on things..so not my DM either.

I don't have a 'best friend' - no-one that I would sit down with on a Friday night with a bottle of wine and put the world to rights. I'm an introvert and not great with opening up in general so the circumstances and timing really have to be perfect for me to pour my heart out or to vent my spleen when I'm chatting with someone else.

Do I need a counsellor? A life coach? I don't particularly want to spend a lot of money on a therapist or anything like that - don't really have it to spare tbh... but who can I speak to? I'm bottling up a lot of ideas, frustrations, worries, random thoughts and I know it's not healthy!

What is your freelance work? Is there an association or forum you could join?

Well, there are a few different elements to it - without wanting to give too much 'outing' detail - essentially it's journalism, specialising in a particular topic area. I am in an association, which is proving fairly helpful so far - although I've realised that they have offered a mentor and this hasn't yet materialised..perhaps I could push for that.

I guess it's also the business side of things which I could use some guidance with too as the goal, ultimately, is to go self-employed with this and at least one other stream of income. I'm trying to progress these just now, and I know I'm giving myself a lot to do on top of 'normal' work and family life, but I really feel compelled to shift my career focus, and if I don't start now I don't know when it will happen...
