Want a small rucksack to use as a handbag....

I would love a small rucksack to use as a handbag. No idea why, I just want one! Is this a good idea? Can anyone suggest a nice one that won't make me look like an old, wannabe student? Blush

I have one of the Maya ones from mia tui & I love it. Loads of room, comfortable to wear very practical for everyday use. Wouldn't be without it now!

Have always thought these are rather fancy:

I have a Kipling handbag rucksack and it is fabulous! Sorry, can't do links but Google it!

I love good handbags, they are my treat.
However I was diagnosed with a neck/shoulder problem and have to use backpacks to avoid pain.
Luckily my beloved Radley do very nice ones Smile

Thank you all! I'm loving these, though some are unfortunately out of my price range Blush. Is it sad that I am very excited now?

I wanted to.show you one by Dune called Ducky which was in black, tan or red but all sold out. The red is lovely.

Have a look on ebay for som wod the dearer ones in VGC secondhand or unused as they will be cheaper.

Thanks for posting this.
I have had a small, black back-pack for at least 10 years!
It has been brilliant, but is now starting to look worn, so I have been thinking of starting to look for a new one.
They are great for leaving your hands free and can look casual and smart casual at the same time.
Thanks for the links!

I have a good few of these because I need them for riding my bike but I don't want to look like a school child carrying my books and PE kit.
I love the ones that you can change the straps to be a handbag or a rucksack.

I have never paid more than £20 for one.

I have a Dakine Cosmo. It has a spacious main section - can fit 2 bottles of wine in it - and a smaller front pocket with pen holders, a zipped pocket for security. Make sure you get the bag with the double zips for each compartment. Less chance of your stuff falling out when you open it.

Zoflorabore · 18/03/2019 06:27

I bought dd (8) a gorgeous little black back pack from River Island and she didn't want it so I thought no problem I will use it instead, so i did.
Had many compliments on it! Dd has now decided she likes it and has taken it off me.
Don't know how to link so will attach a pic, under £20 iirc.

Yorkshiremum17 does your bag hold an A4 wallet?

sundaygrumpy · 18/03/2019 07:54

Le Pliage

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/03/2019 07:57

Make sure the top is secure. I’ve had some guy try shove his hand in my backpack on the underground. Then he got all arsey and aggressive when my companion pointed it out to me. So tempted to put a mousetrap in there.

Anyway - longchamps do nice ones.

You can get an A4 pad in it so I assume a wallet would fit.

MimiSunshine · 18/03/2019 08:24

I have this Ted Baker one. It’s small but fits a surprising amount in

Some drawbacks depending on what kind of day you are having and how you will use it -
Security - agree needs to be secure if standing on tube bus crowded place
Utility - busy days they can drive me mad as you have to keep on taking on and off to get them smallest thing out. Some days I end up with so much in jackets/coat pockets/hands because of this the thing ends up being half empty in my back. I’ve given up using them when on busy foreign city type day for this reason.
When off they are more difficult to put securely over chair in eg bar/restaurant.
There are some lovely cheap ones around and they do free up hands/shoulders and are hugely secure from random snatch type thefts. I use them but only for certain types of day.
