Can't believe there are so many people who don't know the bear hunt story. What the heck were the children doing going in that cave?!

The bear was made up by the dad to enliven a walk. As was the snowstorm (because no-one is dressed for that weather). Dad realised he was going to miss the great British bake off and invented the bear to get everyone home again quickly.

I learnt from a talk on the radio from the author that the oldest character is actually the big brother and not the dad like I'd always assumed.

@shahofsplosh no, the dad never even took them out. The whole outing was made up and they were playing in bed. Lazy man.
