Full name or just first & middle names on Christening shawl?

DH is godfather to a friend's baby next month. We are going to have a shawl made but the baby had 2 middle names. I can either put the baby's 1st and middle names or 1st and surname on the shawl. What would be most appropriate, do you think?

Thanks ☺️

I would say usually the first and middle name(s) are the key bit for christening purposes.

First and middle!

Given names, so everything but the surname.

I've just realised there is an option for line 2 & 3. Would this look okay??

Line 1: James Matthew Jacob
Line 2: Smith
Line 3: 14.04.2019

Should I just skip line 2 then?

I wouldn't put any names on it - I was gifted a christening gown by my grandmother for my christening which is just plain white. Because it's plain it was also used for my brother and sister, cousins, daughter and will be used for my next baby too. It's been lovely to share it within the family and it's become a treasured heirloom - just another point of view x

Yeah I reckon skip line 2 - from what I remember from the one christening I've been to, they don't say the surname so it fits not to have it, and that arrangement will look nicer too

We also have a family christening shawl that has been passed down through the generations so no name.
I think it depends on what you think the family would prefer but I'd definitely miss the surname off.

I agree with those saying keep it as an heirloom. I love ours, but I did also indulge in embroidered bibs with names on!

Is this a CofE thing? Never seen this before.
