Vegetarian for over 25 years but thinking about eating fish again. Anyone done this?

I gave up meat and fish over 25 years ago but I now find myself thinking about eating fish again.

It's partly because I think it would be good for me (perimenopausal, brain fog and always suffering with aches and pains in my joints) and partly because I'm fed up of going abroad and the only vegetarian option being a fecking cheese salad. We're going away again in the summer and will end up in beachfront fish restaurants and I don't want the token green salad and chips.

My worry is my digestive system will go "WTF is that?" and I'll end up with projectile vomiting or explosive shits (OK, maybe a bit dramatic but you get the gist!). There's also part of me that doesn't want to give in IYSWIM.

Have you gone back to eating meat or fish? How was it?

(PS - if you think you've read this thread before it's because I started one like this before, maybe a year or so ago, but can't find it so it must have been in chat and disappeared)

I've been veggie since 1990 and would never eat meat or fish again. The smell knocks me sick, I couldn't morally eat it and I don't miss it. I thought I'd miss fish but anything fishy smells so vile I couldn't contemplate eating it.

I did it. I didn’t feel guilty because I was pregnant and intended to stop eating fish when I gave birth. However once I got used to it, it took a while, I loved it tooo much to give it up. I probably only eat fish once a week but it helps a lot in restaurants or going to dinner a people’s houses.

The only time I've been tempted before was both times I was pregnant.

I'd have these fleeting cravings for white fish but never did anything about it because the desire was so short lived that I wouldn't have had time to buy, cook and eat it before going off the idea again!

I ate fish once after 15 years of being veggie. I was on holiday and had the worst tonsilitis ever. Once I started to recover there was really nothing on the hotel menu I fancied. I ended up asking them to make me mash potato and steamed fish. It was lovely and seemed just what I needed.

I didn't do it again though and went back to being veggie and eventually vegan. I didn't feel guilty about it, or that I'd let myself or indeed fish down. It was just one of those things and no harm done.
