How long have you breastfed all your children for, in total?

I was just wondering how long I would end I would end up breast feeding for in total.

It was be at least 4-5 years.

I figured there would be people on here with a lot more breast feeding years under their belt and wondered how many years there were.

7 years. First one for just over 3 years, second til his 4th birthday, with a period of tandem feeding in the middle. Didn't set out to bf so long but it happened!

duckling84 · 16/03/2019 13:03

52 days - 4dc. Gave into the pressure twice but bf just doesn't work for some. Proud to formula feed and see my kids thrive

9 years so far. 3 children. Ds is 4 and still feeds at bedtime. I'm amazed he's still going as his sister was 3.5 but he's gone longer.

9 years!! Boobs still pert but do wonder what will happen when I stop feeding Confused

Well done to all you ladies who carried on for years and years. You've done a great thing for your kids and your own health.

Women who formula fed did the best thing for their baby up and health too you know.
A fed baby is better than not
A mentally well mother is better than not

happymummy12345 · 17/03/2019 02:19

One child, 0 minutes of breastfeeding. I didn't want to even try it, so I didn't

happymummy12345 · 17/03/2019 02:19

And I won't be trying if I have more children in the future

Mississippilessly · 17/03/2019 06:19

This was inevitably going to become bf vs ff thread number 3 bazillion.

How many times? Breastmilk IS better for your baby than ff, especially at the start. There is no way to cut it to argue otherwise. 'Fed is best'is a silly mantra - fed is a minimum basic health requirement. However ff is a perfectly adequate way to feed a baby.

I dont understand why people have such difficulty accepting this.

BogstandardBelle · 17/03/2019 06:22

7 yrs all in - 3 with DS1 and 4 with DS2, and a short gap between them.

flumpybear · 17/03/2019 06:35

@Mississippilessly - get off your high horse and self righteous pedestal ... you're the one meddling and trying to turn this thread

Mississippilessly · 17/03/2019 06:40

flumpybear no I was responding to the start of ff responses.
There no high horse about it. Ff is fine.

Wallywobbles · 17/03/2019 06:47

Very short for me. 3&5 weeks. I didn't get on with it at all.

Decormad38 · 17/03/2019 06:48

2 kids 2 years

Mississippilessly · 17/03/2019 06:50

For everyone into the years- did you wean them or did they stop? I'm slowly coming to the realisation that I may not be in control of this!

Decormad38 · 17/03/2019 06:52

Just to add that I stopped with my first when I was a Senior Ward Sister and was breaking bad news to a family member that her mother had passed away suddenly and I looked down to find I was drenched in breast milk. It’s not easy being a working mother. We do our best all of us!

cptartapp · 17/03/2019 06:59

2 DC, three months each. I was going back to work and needed them to sleep better, and they did. Maybe selfish, but I valued my mental health and that was more than enough for me.

Idontmeanto · 17/03/2019 07:38

5 years over 3 kids. Got much better at it though! Child 1 5 months, child 2 9 months and the rest was all child 3.

Mississippilessly · 17/03/2019 07:39

cptartapp 3 months is great! Going back to work is a game changer. Sometimes something has to give.

sparklyglitterball · 17/03/2019 07:41

7 years and still ongoing with dd who is 4 months and her 3 year old sister who has milk morning and bedtime. 3 dc in total. I've overlapped/tandem fed with them so it's been continuous. I certainly didn't plan this before becoming pregnant for the first time! I was thinking along the lines of a year for each child. Happy with how it's panned our though Smile

Stylinit · 17/03/2019 07:42

2 DC, 4.5 years in total. 18 months for one but had to stop when I was pg as it made my (already very bad) sickness even worse. DC2 until he weaned himself at 3.

PotteringAlong · 17/03/2019 07:44

57 months. 3 children.

CountFosco · 17/03/2019 07:49

3DC, 8 years in total. First two weaned when I was pregnant with the next so no tandom feeding. Last child had CMPA so BF pretty much until he grew out of the allergy. He still won't drink cows milk though!

mustdrinkwaternotwine · 17/03/2019 08:09

2 DC; 2yrs in total. In hindsight, it would have been better for both DC2 & me (and probably DC1 and DH), if I'd started ff him earlier than I did (9mths) and had a good nights sleep from time to time.
