Ebf 8 week old hasn't pooed in 8 days

It's going to be a massacre when he finally goes...

How long is too long? I keep reading conflicting advice. His wind absolutely hums, the bedroom smelt like rotten ass last night. He's not uncomfortable or in pain, his stomach isn't hard. Do I just wait and pray I'm not wearing something nice when he finally goes?

DS's record was over 2 weeks as a baby. We were told that so long as he's comfortable it's ok.

MinnieMountain · 16/03/2019 08:40

Oh, and it was quite solid when he finally pooed. Just avoid long train journeys for the sake of your nerves.

AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo · 16/03/2019 08:42

As long as he’s weeing and otherwise well it’s fine. My DD was one of those EBF babies that didn’t go for 2 weeks...I hate to break it you, but when she did it smelt like something had died, armpit poonami and needed 2 baths to clean her up Blush

Can you give him some fresh orange juice? My DD used to get constipated regularly and fresh orange juice always worked.

WitchDancer · 16/03/2019 08:52

Oh man it's going to be good when it happens 😱

You do know baby grows have splits on the shoulder so it can taken off down the body instead of overthrow head? HTH

WitchDancer · 16/03/2019 08:52

over the head. Nothing to do with overthrowing 😂

FusionChefGeoff · 16/03/2019 09:06

It's a testament to the efficiency of breast milk as food - no waste Grin

But yes, take the vest off DOWN the body and dump the baby straight under a cool running tap!!

KnittingSister · 16/03/2019 09:11

Eat an orange

mrsed1987 · 16/03/2019 09:12

My health visitor said they dont start to worry until 10 days and then suggest orange juice

Isadora2007 · 16/03/2019 09:15

Orange juice? Not for an 8 week old baby surely? Or do you mean for the mum? Not sure that it works that way. But as long as he is feeding on demand and over 6 weeks old it’s not really too concerning for a EBF baby to not poop for ages. Maybe he’s had a growth spurt and is using all the milk to grow!!

mrsed1987 · 16/03/2019 09:17

@isadore2007 thats what i was advised, just a little splash. The sugar makes them have loose stools so would help them poo!

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 16/03/2019 09:19

Ds1 was an every 10 days on the dot baby was actually useful to know when it was coming but my got his wind was disgusting a few days before. But yes when it came boy did it come.
For this saying constipated it’s quite normal for breasted babies over 6 weeks to not poop for up to two weeks at a time because breast milk is efficient and produces little waste. I wouldn’t be giving feed orange juice to and 8 week old baby.

Woodward12 · 16/03/2019 09:21

I would also just keep an eye on the weight gain though as it can also be a sign of not getting enough milk through bf (it was with my baby, as well as being generally slow of bowel).

Tinyteatime · 16/03/2019 09:21

Up to 2 weeks normal for b/f baby. They can’t really get constipated. There’s just very little waste.

GummyGoddess · 16/03/2019 09:24

Don't be relieved if some sort of small plug is pooped first. If so then do not change baby with them vertically in front of you as lifting to put a new nappy on may be dangerous!

TeddyIsaHe · 16/03/2019 09:25

Normal! Dd once went 2 weeks and we were out in a cafe when she went. I think I blocked that from my memory, it wasn’t fun trying to sort that out.

MumUnderTheMoon · 16/03/2019 09:37

If this is unusual then take your child to hospital or the GP or call 111. If is probably nothing to worry about but if something is wrong you should leave it.

MumUnderTheMoon · 16/03/2019 09:37

*shouldnt.

jaynelovesagathachristie · 16/03/2019 09:47

Is baby comfortable can you a dr or nurse feel any poo inside ? My baby at 6 weeks couldn't poo his poo was all inside, he was intolerant to lactose in my milk, his intestines basically produced gas inside and we had to physically help him poo everyday ( on drs orders as it was an extreme case) I over produce milk and he had far too much inside him. It became severe colic until 7 months then was a delight. My point is, make sure you rule out very loose gassy poo and constipation

Pinkprincess1978 · 16/03/2019 09:54

I remember my ds going 8 days once then he did two massive ones in the same day. It was such a big moment when he did go I rang DH at work to tell him 😂

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/03/2019 09:55

For a EBF baby it’s normal. 10 days was the regular occurrence here. It was carnage when it happened. No nappy can keep that in. It always happened in the car seat or as we were visiting someone. Cue us disappearing with baby into bathroom for ages.

Keep an eye on it at potty training stages. My DC is 7years old and has regular constipation bouts.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 16/03/2019 11:11

Plenty of wet nappies, weight gain has been consistent, feeds on demand...a lot. His wind has been rotten for about 3 days now. I've been giving him lots of time on his mat to kick his legs, also stomach massage and leg cycling to try and help keep things moving. I guess I'll give him the weekend and see if anything happens.

I've got orange juice so will have a couple of glasses, can't hurt to try.

I won't give him anything other than bm unless advised to by the gp, don't worry.

I found the car seat or the baby bouncer seat worked for poo explosions.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 16/03/2019 12:18

No car atm but he's been in the vibrating bouncer loads as it used to work for ds1.

I might take him out for a walk later and leave the change bag at home. Give sods law a shot Grin
