Ebf 8 week old hasn't pooed in 8 days

It's going to be a massacre when he finally goes...

How long is too long? I keep reading conflicting advice. His wind absolutely hums, the bedroom smelt like rotten ass last night. He's not uncomfortable or in pain, his stomach isn't hard. Do I just wait and pray I'm not wearing something nice when he finally goes?

Haha, yes that’s should do it. Maybe take a single baby wipe as a gesture to the law of sod!

TheVonTrappFamilySwingers · 16/03/2019 12:38

Completely normal for ebf baby. DD1 was about a 8-9 day poo-er then it was total poomaggedon! GP told us to give her a teaspoon of fresh orange juice if she went too long and that would stimulate things. I would squeeze an orange and strain the juice and give her half a teaspoon if she went over 9 days. Didn't do that often.

UselessTrees · 16/03/2019 12:49

Try letting someone wearing expensive clothing hold him for a bit. A cream cashmere jumper or a dry clean only suit is perfect for this purpose. Grin

DD2 did this. I was living with my PIL at the time, and they popped open a bottle of bubbly when she finally did pop her own cork. It was an epic dump.

TildaTurnip · 16/03/2019 13:33

My EBF babies were both the same too!

ThunderStorms · 16/03/2019 13:38

NO to fucking orange juice!!

It’s totally NORMAL in ebf.

We went a month. It was great.

whitehalleve · 16/03/2019 13:45

My Dd was the same but did usually get uncomfortable if she got to 9+ days at which point I'd give her a (prescribed) suppository. She was like a different baby afterwards with a look of pure relief.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 16/03/2019 16:39

@ThunderStorms A MONTH?!? fucking hell!! And I won't be giving him orange juice, honest! The only things he gets in his mouth are nipple, hands and a force fed dummy from his brother when I'm not looking.

@UselessTrees sounds like a plan! I shall have to invite over my lovely clean child free friend for a cuddle Grin

Poor soul must be having a growth spurt as he has spent the day farting and sleeping. Seriously, our flat reeks Envy

Honestly, is was great. (Has to be ebf, though , formula changes things). Made nappy changing easier.

Crunchymum · 16/03/2019 16:53

@ThunderStorms

No poo for a month isn't good or normal.

And if you didn't speak to a medical professional about it then I'd really judge you to be honest.

Also, the OP said she was going to have some OJ and not give it to the baby.

Troels · 16/03/2019 17:20

Ds went nearly three weeks, then did the up the back and out the sides of his nappy, the Doc said it was fine, he then went on to do nothing for a further week or so. Then settled into a routine of every 4 days and it would be a biggie. So long as theres nothing given but breastmilk it's OK.
DONT give juice or sugar water.

TheNavigator · 16/03/2019 17:23

I remember my first would regularly go over a week without a poo. Once it was nearly a fortnight. We often bathed together & when that one came it was in the shared bath - lovely memory!

ThunderStorms · 16/03/2019 17:33

@Crunchymum of course I took medical advice. Every single medical person said it was totally fine and normal.

mrsed1987 · 16/03/2019 21:48

Interesting so many people saying not to give oj but yet i waa advised by my health visitor to do so!

ThunderStorms · 16/03/2019 21:54

With ebf it’s due to research into the 'virgin' gut and setting up the ideal biome through breasmilk. Things change when you introduce something else. There’s been so much learnt about it.

Formula fed is different, because you have already introduced something else. It’s also quite acidic and full of sugar. It’s only a tiny amount, but at 6 weeks or so, a tiny amount is a lot.

FurrySlipperBoots · 16/03/2019 22:39

I might take him out for a walk later and leave the change bag at home. Give sods law a shot

No, no, you want to be in Tesco with a trolley full of frozen food and your eldest throwing a tantrum, that'll do it! Wink

MollyHuaCha · 16/03/2019 22:58

I would try some more gentle tummy massage and cycling the legs.

Do seek medical advice if you are worried.

icclemunchy · 16/03/2019 23:00

I usually find running late for an important appointment effective. Or leave the hiuse wearing white without the changing bag 🙈

bunintheoven88 · 16/03/2019 23:42

God OP I hope it isn't too terrible when it finally does happen 😬

Sorry to derail your thread but what about if a baby is formula fed? My daughter is 9 weeks and sometimes doesn't poo for two or three days and when she does it's a massive wet poosplosion! Is this normal?

cantfindname · 16/03/2019 23:43

I used to find that what I ate greatly affected the amount of poo produced. Tenderstem broccoli set some sort of world poo record Grin

I believe eating grapes also can cause the same effect...

HerSymphonyAndSong · 16/03/2019 23:49

Mine used to go 7 days when only breastfed. He has diarrhoea at the moment and is on solids and as I change my ninth poo nappy of the day I am wistful for those days. When the poo finally came it was not the “inoffensive” breastmilk poo people talk about. It was pretty concentrated after that amount of time being processed in the gut and definitely made itself known smellwise

cattaxi · 16/03/2019 23:51

You need somewhere really important to go to. For us, 10 week old ds popped the cork on 11 days worth all over dh just as he was getting ready to go to a funeral. It was everywhere. I’m sure I almost popped my c-section scar laughing at him standing there with yellow poo dripping off him 😂

SlipperyLizard · 16/03/2019 23:58

DD used to be every 14-16 days, when it came it was unstoppable - just had to lie her down and keep swapping nappies out to catch it. It was useful in the days immediately after to know you wouldn’t have to change a poo on the hop, but we’d start getting worried from about day 10 that it would happen in a cafe (or worse!)

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 17/03/2019 05:09

Well we had a tiny poo last night just before bed. I was waiting for the explosion overnight but nothing more. Just swampy farts. At least I know it's all still moving/working. Always a bit concerning when they go so long without for the first time, he was every other day previously.

IJustLostTheGame · 17/03/2019 08:29

Dd went 10 days without pooing, the 72 hours after that was poo carnage.
I still get flashbacks....
