Anyone good with messenger/Facebook?

I am on a selling page on Facebook and listed a purse for sale. A lady contacted me this morning to ask for more photos which I sent. She then came back and offered me less than the price I was asking. Before I could go back and say no, she somehow managed to send me money via messenger. I then got a message via messenger to say do I want claim the funds. I declined and sent them back and asked the lady to pay me via PayPal good and services if she whited to proceed.

Is this a new thing on messenger or has someone tried to scam me somehow. I don’t suppose messenger can protect payments as PayPal would.

Thanks.

It's possible but unlikely. By sending you money via a service which allows you to decline, she can't then come back and say you didn't return it and ask for more.

She's likely found it to be a tactic which works when buying on Facebook. Someone selling something for a smallish amount will be tempted to think "Oh well, the money's there now...I'll just accept that amount"

You did the right thing.
