Amusing local news stories

I love local news websites, papers, parish magazines etc. Mostly because they add an air of importance to really trivial 'news', and also because they often have an amusing writing style. I found this gem last night (regarding a vehicle fire that closed a road for a while)...

"We rang the [nearby hotel] to see if they had information about the lorry fire. The helpful barmaid said: “Nothing I can see my lovely.”

And one of my favourites concerning a crash that meant another road closure...

"Passengers on a Stagecoach bus, one carrying a large mirror she had purchased, walked beside the accident scene to make their way home after the incident."

Is it just me that lives in a place with stories like this?? Please share others!

Love this. Not quite the same but I am on a fb group of a village with a duck pond. Last winter there were endless posts about the ducks, where they were, were they OK. I am completely in support of the duck love :)

You should check out the Chorley ones! The Westmorland Gazette is a spectacular source of these, as shown by the office chair story in that Buzzfeed link.

PerpendicularVincent those buzz feed ones are hilarious! I particularly liked the 'delinquent' who set fire to a chair, and the blob on the pavement that looked like a sheep! I think being a local reporter would be my dream job.
