What's the best chocolate and where can I buy it?

I fancy some naice chocolate for the weekend but don't know what to get.

I've completely gone off Cadburys. I like a rich milk chocolate or a slightly creamy dark chocolate, not too sweet and sickly. Most dark chocolates are too bitter though and most milk too creamy.

What's your favourite? And where do you buy it?

Lindt? Or M & S does an intense (?) milk chocolate bar in the thin Continental style and size,

HouseOfMouse · 15/03/2019 02:32

I like the Green & Black Velvet range - creamy dark chocolate. Especially the sea salt, and the ginger one.

999caffeineplease · 15/03/2019 02:36

Moser Roth (sp?) from Aldi is truly the superior chocolate. Everything else is choc full (haha) of palm oil but Moser Roth is smooth and just sweet enough, milk or dark varieties.

Thanks.

Is the Green and Blacks Velvet range creamier than their normal dark chocolate? I used to like Green and Blacks but it seems to have changed since being bought out.

Lindt milk chocolate is too creamy. Not too keen on their dark either. I'll have a look in M&S tomorrow.

Hmm ... I tried Aldi's Moser Roth but didn't like it, it was too sweet for me.

Have you tried good old galaxy recently?

frazzledasarock · 15/03/2019 03:35

I’m currently addicted to Montezuma, I love their mint chocolate the mint bits are slightly crunchy.

You can get it online or they do have a few outlets or Holland and Barrett stock their chocolates.

drigon · 15/03/2019 03:39

Lidl Rich Milk Chocolate is delicious and not too expensive either.

Batsypatsy · 17/03/2019 10:07

Ive tried a couple of montezuma flavours, quite like the lime ones.

I've never liked Galaxy.

I thought someone would suggest something artisan I've not heard of ...

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/03/2019 10:11

I also like the Lidl “Rich Milk Chocolate”. It isn’t sweet or cloying like a lot of chocolates so even if it doesn’t have the highest cocoa percent you taste it a bit more.

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/03/2019 10:14

If it’s artisan you’re looking for then I quite like Paul A Young and Holdsworth as a rare taste - both available from John Lewis or online I think if you aren’t London based. They’re quite expensive though and whilst very nice I’m never sure justify the cost except as a gift. I am not a particular chocolate lover though, if you are you might think otherwise.

TSSDNCOP · 17/03/2019 10:16

I tried a bar of Lindt cherry for you yesterday OP. It’s a hit. You’re welcome.

Batsypatsy · 17/03/2019 10:19

TSSDNCOP Grin Thank you so much. I've not tried cherry, how was it?

I don't have a Lidl nearby but next time I'm near one I'll get a bar.

I'll have a look online for those Comtesse.

I'd recommend Waitrose's milk chocolate with high cocoa content - I think it's about 45%. It's extra extra chocolatey creamy milk chocolate. Amazing!!!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 17/03/2019 10:22

I know it's Cadburys but have you tried their DarkMilk bar? It's more rich tasting than the normal milk, but not bitter.

TSSDNCOP · 17/03/2019 10:23

Lush OP. I had to tidy away the whole bar.

PhilipJennings · 17/03/2019 10:24

It sounds like the Hotel Chocolat super milk bars would be right up your street. Officially milk choc but with a higher cocoa content, so not quite as sweet or creamy. I had one last night which was 65% and had a lovely smoky/toasted accent which was delicious. The kids tried it and didn't like it - bonus!

HappyGoGoLucky · 17/03/2019 10:24

Aldi have some really lovely chocolate. Especially their dark ones 😍

This one from Sainsbury’s is lovely!

LoudBatPerson · 17/03/2019 10:26

Waitrose intense milk chocolate is incredible in my opinion.

Batsypatsy · 17/03/2019 10:39

Sadly I've not got a waitrose nearby either.

I'll look for Godiva in Sainsbury's.

I've tried the Cadburys Dark Milk and it's close to what I'm looking for, just a bit sweet.

Another vote for Aldi. Their butter fudge is worth sampling too. I think it’s probably worth trying all the suggestions on this thread. It’s all in the name of research, isn’t it?

AwkwardSquad · 17/03/2019 11:22

I tried the Godiva and found it far too sweet. Chocolate Society chocolate bars are good, especially the Blonde with sea salt - like posh
caramac. Not quite what you’re after, though, OP. I agree with the Waitrose 1 recommendations, and you could always try Sainsbo own brand, their single variety plain chocolate is very good.

hotchocdrinker · 17/03/2019 11:30

I too like a nice dark milk chocolate and there are two that I buy regularly. There's this one from Waitrose: www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/waitrose-1-intense-milk-chocolate/814123-287765-287766, and a high cocoa content one from M&S, which I will try to attach a photo of. Both are divine!

magicstar1 · 17/03/2019 11:38

ALDI Moser Roth have a whole range of chocolate 35%, 60%, 70%, 85%, single origin, chilli, orange, mint and many others. Maybe try some different combinations?
