Worried: my son's just eaten a very bitter peanut

He's not got a nut allergy at all and eats peanuts regularly. He's just eaten what he describes as a very bitter peanut. It's made him fetch and cry with shock (!). The bad flavour is lingering badly and he's fretting he might have some kind of food poisoning. He's 11. Any ideas?

I had that a few months ago - was horrid, butI was fine.

I'd imagine as he hasn't got an allergy he will be fine.

Dontrocktheboat · 14/03/2019 20:58

Highly unlikely - just give him something to take away the taste!

I don't think he'll get food poisoning from a bitter peanut.

It might have been a bad one but doesn't mean he got food poisoning. I don't know enough about peanuts but didn't want to read and run.

could there be one that was just not 'ripe' enough? You know how you get slightly bitter almonds some times? I hope it's nothing OP! Does he seem well otherwise? How long has it been since he ate it?

PorridgeIsYummy · 14/03/2019 21:03

Thanks! He's calming down now. He was really upset, which I found a little worrying given he's not a tiny kid. He seems well enough although he says he wants to be sick. I guess the flavour must have been horrendous!

Thanks, everyone xx

I can still remember how horrific an “off” Brazil nut tasted two decades ago, so I think it might just be that nuts can be seriously nasty! They do kind of make a paste in your mouth when chewed too, so it’s hard to quickly get the bad taste eradicated. Hope he’s ok.
