If you have a sickness and diarrhoea virus/ bug you starve yourself don't you? Dh is so Ill he had mon/Tuesday off but because he is self employed he has been yesterday and today and isn't eating because it sets off again. I've Told him to just drink water and dioralytes because I was always told not eat if your like that?

Water and crackers or dry toast are best.

Does he workwith anyone else? He shouldn’t have contact with anyone else for 48hrs after the last instance of being “ill”

LIZS · 14/03/2019 18:32

Agree a plain diet is usually recommended with fluids.

chocolatelog · 14/03/2019 19:02

No he works by himself. The dry toast even sets it off 🙈 I'll grab him some crackers tonight when I pop to Tesco.

Thanks guys

I believe current advice is to eat if your hungry.

dementedpixie · 14/03/2019 19:12

No you aren't correct. Current advice is that you can eat but stick to carb rich foods that aren't fatty or spicy. Keep up fluids too

dementedpixie · 14/03/2019 19:12

And how will he have energy to work if he doesn't eat anything?

Mississippilessly · 14/03/2019 19:13

Go for the BRAT diet - banana, rice, apple sauce and toast

chocolatelog · 14/03/2019 19:17

Well anything he's eaten has just started the whole process off again. Tuesday night looked better then he had some dry toast and suffered yesterday and today for it 🙈 I told him to eat nothing and just focus on staying hydrated, that's the main thing. Was that wrong?

He has to work otherwise there's no money.

My dm used to give me 50/50 milk and water with a beaten up egg in it, a pinch of salt and some fresh orange juice. She said it would keep me hydrated. (Not sure why it didn't curdle, but it wasn't very nice).

dementedpixie · 14/03/2019 19:31

Don't need to limit to BRAT. NHS says If you feel like eating, try small amounts of plain foods, such as soup, rice, pasta and bread.

He will be contagious so shouldn't be anywhere near people until 48 hours after last episode

DaisysStew · 14/03/2019 19:35

My DS has just had a really bad tummy bug and we were advised to keep giving him plain food and to just avoid spicy foods and fruit/fruit juices.

Dh had diarrhoea last week for 3-4 days, drank very little and ate nothing! He fainted getting off the toilet during the night which is even worse considering his weight and disability means he struggles to get up at the best of times so with absolutely no energy he was on the floor for a while. Sad

He should try and eat something plain and definitely drink plenty of fluids also rest if he can.
