Would prefer a relaxing weekend doing a few of the less touristy things - any suggestions? Thanks.

Madrid has to be one of my favourite places I've ever been. We wandered through some of the smaller back streets and stumbled across a flamenco bar - so so much better (and a hell of a lot cheaper) than the big tourist shows, it was fantastic.

Madrid gets going round about 10pm till about 3am, if it's dry everyone is out just strolling around, having a drink or some food, really nice, easy-going atmosphere.

You might see a few street working girls if you wander off the main thoroughfairs. May also see people selling stuff off blankets then hurriedly packing up and running away. Just don't buy anything from them.

Cafe and bar culture is the way to go. A drink and a plate of tapas here, a little wander, a drink and a different plate of tapas there, a bit of shopping. Lovely!

I lived in Madrid for 3 years. It's a wonderful city. We loved The Retiro park, plaza Santa Ana, and wandering around Casa de Campo. It's very easy to get around and the transport is inexpensive. Have a great time

San Miguel market looks amazing, thanks. Would love a bit of Flamenco too. Might join in after a glass or two...!
