New Airbnb host, first booking a really odd one

I've had a message from someone who doesn't want to book but wants to use the address to buy some tickets which I'll then forward on.
Why? And surely its some sort of scam? Presumably if I decline she can leave me a rating though. Does anyone know what this will be about?

Contact the site tell them they should stop the bad review

SlangBack · 14/03/2019 06:45

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but do you have to reply to her?

I would totally ignore the message if possible.

Is there an option to report & block? (Probably not)

Its a very strange request!

lizzzyyliveson · 14/03/2019 06:51

Don't reply to the message. If they are not booking with you, they are just strangers on the internet. No need to do anything for them.

Happynow001 · 14/03/2019 07:00

Don't get involved OP. Stay well clear of this weird request.

Al2O3 · 14/03/2019 07:06

If someone books on Air BNB how do you know what gender they are?

Fridakahlofan · 14/03/2019 07:07

they can't leave a review unless booking goes ahead

PurpleWithRed · 14/03/2019 07:22

No booking = no rating. Report to AirB&B and ignore them.

cantbearsed1 · 14/03/2019 07:23

A1203 OP knows what sex they are from the name.
Although as this is clearly a scam, all bets are off.

KnitterOfSocks · 14/03/2019 07:27

Knows what sex they are from the name? How do you do that then?

upsideyerelephant · 14/03/2019 07:29

It's a scam.

What's the stuff about gender?

origamiunicorn · 14/03/2019 07:30

A lot have profile photos

origamiunicorn · 14/03/2019 07:32

Also you can't leave a review until you've booked, the date of your visit has passed AND the host has reviewed you first. You also can't see their review so you can't do tit for tat.

cantbearsed1 · 14/03/2019 07:33

knitterofsocks I have very special powers that allows me to surmise that Julie is a woman and Kevin is a man,

whatamIactuallypayingfor · 14/03/2019 07:41

Knows what sex they are from the name? How do you do that then?

Why does it matter?

Petalflowers · 14/03/2019 07:43

Well dodgy. Someone wants to borrow your address! They’re not a Nigerian prince are they?

if A random stranger in the street approached you and asked if they could send some tickets to your address for them to pick up later, would you accept this offer? Thought not. Same principle with a random online stranger.

shinyNewPound · 14/03/2019 07:46

My first though was more serious than a scam. They want something delivered to you that they don't want to come directly to them. I'd assume drugs or something. Agree with reporting them to AirBnB.

LifeChangingMagicOfDoingSodAll · 14/03/2019 07:46

Tell airbnb and they can block them in case they try this with someone else

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 14/03/2019 07:48

It does seem to have scam written all over it. Can’t help thinking though if it’s for say, Disney tickets at Florida resident prices, you could have a cracking business opportunity though Grin

Alwayscheerful · 14/03/2019 07:49

Press the report button and do not respond let Airbnb deal with it.
Profile pictures are now only visible after a booking had been confirmed.

happierever · 14/03/2019 07:51

Just decline

ApolloandDaphne · 14/03/2019 07:59

Just ignore their message and pass it on the Airb&b to deal with?

Hoppinggreen · 14/03/2019 08:09

Tell Airbnb, their live chat is really good

musicposy · 14/03/2019 08:11

I too am thinking local resident prices. For instance, if you live on the Isle of Wight you can get the ferry tickets discounted (you can see how exciting my life is to have that information!)

Don't do it, OP. Even if it's this kind of low level scam it's still fraud, and why would you? They're probably trying their luck with more than just you. Block, report, ignore.

EjectorCrab · 14/03/2019 08:11

If someone books on Air BNB how do you know what gender they are?
What a strange thing to pick up on? I would imagine because the OP had a message they may have put a name, admittedly a name is not necessarily gender identifying and the person may identity differently or prefer to be addressed as they. Or maybe they had a profile photo. The point of your post is confusing me.

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2019 08:41

She signed it vicky.
Thanks for advice.
To ppl saying ignore, I'm unde the impression you get an automatic negative review if you don't reply within 48h is that rifgt
