New Airbnb host, first booking a really odd one

I've had a message from someone who doesn't want to book but wants to use the address to buy some tickets which I'll then forward on.
Why? And surely its some sort of scam? Presumably if I decline she can leave me a rating though. Does anyone know what this will be about?

"if A random stranger in the street approached you and asked if they could send some tickets to your address for them to pick up later,"
No but if a random stranger asked to stay in my house I wouldn't allow it. Air bnb is set up for this very purpose.

origami unicorn thank you that's really helpful
The tickets were for the radio one big weekend so nothing to do with local rates

Is it being held in your area? I believe the tickets are free, or used to be, but a huge portion are set aside for local residents with specific postcodes. I had a friend who suddenly had 50+ friends “living” with her when it was held in hackney as they all submitted her address in the hope of getting tickets...

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2019 08:58

No I assume its national.
I have been in to deal with it and there was an option to say I was uncomfortable with the request and to send a message back. So i sent a polite message saying I was only on air bnb with a house to rent and wishing her luck getting sorted with tickets I can't see how anything negative can come back on me from that. Phew. Thanks all.

A booking request is different to an enquiry.

Booking requests affect your response score and viewing algorithm.
An enquiry just needs responding to it doesn't affect your rating.

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2019 09:09

I think this was a booking request. She'd picked a date etc which I was presumably meant to ignore

What a strange thing to pick up on?
The point of your post is confusing me.

Because I have no idea how Air BNB works and I am interested in it.

The explanation is much simpler than you want it to be.

GottenGottenGotten · 14/03/2019 09:16

I would assume the are looking to book an event in your town, and won't be home when tickets are likely to be delivered (I've had this before, the tickets arrived after I'd left to go to the event city), so they want to know if they could get their tickets delivered there before they book the accommodation.

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2019 09:16

I am still learning. So far I've been very impressed with the site. It's all very well organised.

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2019 09:17

Ah OK. I've just googled radio one big weekend and it is local

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2019 09:17

Feel like an idiot now

GottenGottenGotten · 14/03/2019 09:18

Is it the first booking you have received, or the first booking she has made?

If the former, has anyone reviewed her?

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2019 09:19

First booking I've received, no idea about her

OP posts:
GottenGottenGotten · 14/03/2019 09:22

Can you look at her profile and see if she has been reviewed by other hosts?

Belindapotsandpans · 14/03/2019 09:25

I was about to ask if this was for big weekend. Local residents are allocated the majority amount of the tickets available.

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2019 09:27

Dammit have I done the wrong thing

OP posts:
Bookworm4 · 14/03/2019 09:31

You've not done anything wrong, you said she wanted you to forward the tickets so no intention of coming to stay or they would collect the tickets when they arrived. She's a chancer.

Belindapotsandpans · 14/03/2019 09:31

I wouldn’t risk it personally. Although on the bright side, I believe tickets go on sale tonight for it so you may receive requests for that weekend to use your b&b!

Hiphopopotamus · 14/03/2019 09:32

Not the wrong thing if you didn’t want to do it but it’s not a dodgy scam. With the big weekend it’s s lot easier to get a ticket if you have a local address.

SlothMama · 14/03/2019 09:44

If it's for the big weekend you have a better chance of getting tickets if you live locally to the venue. Either way it'd be a polite no from me, it's the hassle of having to send on the tickets to her!

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2019 09:46

Belinda that would be good

MadSweeney · 14/03/2019 10:48

DH recently had his card compromised. They tried to buy gig tickets.
Spoke to a friend who's had her card compromised lately as well - gig tickets too.

Buy tickets with stolen card, have them sent to an Air BnB address.

upsideyerelephant · 14/03/2019 11:45

Nah, you haven't done the wrong thing,

She's a scammer- trying to scam tickets she's not entitled to.

StealthPolarBear · 14/03/2019 12:15

Wow I feel better now. As belinda says, hopefully the event will get me some bookings.
So far still empty :)

hardyloveit · 14/03/2019 17:46

I wouldn't do it op sounds too dodgy imo. Contact Airbnb and say what has been said.

Also what an earth does the sex of the person have to do with anything
