Mumps

DS has mumps. He's 18 and in lots of pain from swelling. Anyone got any tips that might help please?

He had the MMR but it's going round uni like wildfire. He said his friends have had their MMRs too but are still getting it.

The doctor I spoke to explained that his peer group doesn't have a high enough % of people who had the MMR, and as it's not 100% effective this is what happens. Great.

(Liverpool uni if anyone's interested.)

Hi OP. I had it at uni! ibuprofen the max dosage helped ! Chewing ice helped me - don't know why ! Rest really though is the Maine one !

Avoid anything that will make him salivate, that causes the most excruciating pain. Water was about the only thing I could manage, even smelling food made me feel terriable for a while. I was in bed for 2 weeks when I had mumps and took a good few months to feel well again after. Doctor gave me really strong painkillers. I'd been vacinated but worked with young children where many of their peer group were not being vacinated.

Thanks very much, I'll try these and see if they help. It's not a nice thing to have for sure!
