Seeking Hand Hold/ Reassurance!

34+1 have been admitted to antenatal ward as suspected I am in early labour. IVF baby (not sure if relevant!). DH has had to go home and I feel anxious as I am not sure what to expect now.
The monitoring machine is reporting contraction type tightenings and I do feel some discomfort but I don’t feel like I need any pain relief.
Does anyone have any similar stories they can share or even just a hand hold really. I am fortunate that I have never had an overnight hospital stay so I feel anxious.

Holds hand

Thinking of you and sending lots of positive vibes your way. Be strong!

Here to keep you company

ShagMeRiggins · 13/03/2019 20:37

No similar story, but try to distract yourself while simultaneously keeping focus.

First baby?

Millie2013 · 13/03/2019 20:47

This happened to me at 32 weeks, I was admitted for monitoring for 3 days, had steroid injections for baby’s lungs. Things then settled, only to start up again that night, which meant another trip to delivery

In he end, DD had it he evicted at 40 weeks 🙄

Fingers crossed for you, if it helps at all, they wanted to get me to 34 weeks at first, to avoid a mad dash to the county hospital - where they send early labourers - and you’re already there :)

Thank you @nini @shag & @millie.
Yes this is my first so no idea what to expect at all. I had a steroid injection at midday for baby’s lungs and another expected at midnight.
I wish I’d have brought my eyemask with me as not sure if I’m supposed to turn off the light in my little room?!

Thinking of you OP, I hope all is ok x

ninibear · 13/03/2019 21:06

Aww maybe make a small list of things for DH to bring along tomorrow?

As hard as it is do try and get some rest if you can!

petalsinthegarden · 13/03/2019 21:13

Holding your hand Thanks

Stay positive. Echo PP about the list. Make yourself as comfortable as is possible.

I had my son at 34 weeks, he's 10 months old now and I cannot keep up with him! He's brilliant.

babasaclover · 13/03/2019 21:14

Sending hand hold and also big hugs. Happy mother of miracle IVF baby / 10 years trying.

My story is not too similar - but thought you would appreciate the share. Admitted at 37 weeks, as baby not moving much. Such dread on my part, ivf always make the wait seem even longer I think - as you know from minute 1 of pregnancy. Monitored and then sent for c section after a few days - baby was breach.

Make sure hubby brings you something to snack on as meals are few and far between in hospital. Earplugs. Eye mask. phone charger. Clean fluffy towels. Dressing gown. Slippers. I never even got to pack a bag as thought i'd still have works!

thegreatbeyond · 13/03/2019 21:27

While it's not ideal, the odds of your baby being fine are very high. 34 weeks isn't that bad.

MidnightLavender · 13/03/2019 22:46

Well.
My waters have just gone! Wooosh!
Was not expecting that!

Big hand hold OP, we’re all here for you xx

Thepearofwisdom · 13/03/2019 22:49

Good luck, I'll be thinking of you Thanks

UrsulaPandress · 13/03/2019 22:50

Good luck!

SleepWarrior · 13/03/2019 22:50

Eek, sounds like baby is on its way - good luck! 34 weeks is obviously earlier than you'd choose but not scary early by any stretch.

Focus on meeting your new baby, nothing else matters, and anything medical the doctors will take care of Flowers

littlecabbage · 13/03/2019 22:51

Good luck OP. Sounds like you'll meet your baby soon Smile

MidnightLavender · 13/03/2019 23:14

I’ve turned down the codeine as worried it could pass to babe.
Can anyone recommend pain relief/ share their stories?

I was about to write yes with all three of mine but they stayed out, then I read that your waters had gone!
Very best of luck, and sending positive vibes. Yes, 34 weeks is early but not massively early as a PP has said

💐

Eatmycheese · 13/03/2019 23:25

Stayed put

LookImAHooman · 13/03/2019 23:36

Codeine will be fine personally reckon it did sod all, though Good luck, OP! You’re in the best place and will have your wonderful little person in your arms soon!

sparkli · 13/03/2019 23:50

DD19 was born at 32 weeks. She was in SCBU for less than 2 weeks before we got home. DS12 was born at 34 weeks and we were home after 11 days. DD13 was born at 36 weeks and we went home 2 days later. My other 3DC were all 37 weeks and we were home the same day or the day after. Good luck OP!!!!!

BitOfAKerfuffle · 14/03/2019 00:12

Hope all is OK OP but rest assured even if baby is born now it will thrive !. I was admitted with regular contractions and was 3cm dilated at 28 weeks. Steriod injections moved to delivery suite and then moved back to antenatal ward and baby wasn't born until 36 weeks in the end !

SleepWarrior · 14/03/2019 00:56

I found gas and air way better than everyone says.

It was enough for me - could still feel the pain but it was different, like it didn't bother me any more.

ninibear · 14/03/2019 01:08

Good luck OP

Thinking of you as I'm up feeding my 5 month old.

Gas and air is amazing! You and baby will be just fine

TinselAndKnickers · 14/03/2019 01:12

Good luck OP! Thanks
