Hi, Im new to this site, but I really do need some advice.

I had a home start volunteer for nearly 2 years and now that my little boy as started nursery it as come to an end.

When I had my little boy I had a breakdown, and children services got involved alongside Homestart.

Can I by law request a copy of my file that they hold?

Thank you

Of course
Just ask, no need to demand by law or similar

Yes you can ask under the data protection act. Its called a subject access request and they should be able to provide you with the whole file except that some of it will be redacted - e.g. names and addresses of others

Sorry hit send too soon.

If you write to them and say that you'd like to see all information they hold pertaining to you between x and y date they should supply it

Thank you, because when they closed the case I asked and she pulled a face at me over it.
Last year I had a young persons assessement and their volunteer reported that I neglected my child and when I challenged it she denied and they said no such thing was said.

I have already put in a complaint to children services regarding the accusation and lack of support from family support x. Sorry for the rant Smile

Yes, you can ask and they will supply you with a copy. I think there are certain things they can keep back - but not sure what they are/if any would apply to you.
At my HS, they only keep the closed files for a year (unless there are child protection issues), and after a year the file is shredded.
