What do you think about Nespresso machines?

Hello everyone,

We have just made a page about the most-recommended coffee machines on Mumsnet - that is, the machines that MNers seem to rate the most. It contains ‘affiliate links’ to products that MNers rate highly, meaning we get a small commission if someone clicks through and buys something after viewing the page.

Lots of Mumsnetters recommend Nespresso coffee machines. Nestle is one of the companies Mumsnet doesn’t carry advertising from as part of the Nestle Boycott so we do feel a bit conflicted about their inclusion in Mumsnet content. The page is based on recommendations from the Talk boards so it feels disingenuous to omit a frequently-recommended product.

So we thought we’d ask you what you think about it:

Many thanks in advance for your input.

I think it's a very wasteful way to make coffee - only 21% of capsules get recycled.

Not sure if this has been mentioned and i missed it, but Waitrose sell Eden Project nespresso pods that are fully compostable. 3 flavours + decaff.

Cunt has never been a banned word on MN. You're clearly new here.

TheClitterati · 16/03/2019 03:11

@Flobochin if you don't like the word cunt you should stop using it Grin

TheClitterati · 16/03/2019 03:11

And welcome to MN

Flobochin · 16/03/2019 06:42

Shows how common so many are on here.

I wonder if someone called your daughter one how you would feel.

BaronessBomburst · 16/03/2019 08:55

If my daughter worked for Nestlé she'd have earned it.
We have a Nespresso machine at work, used for conferences and trade fairs. Except I do the purchasing and buy Fair Trade recyclable pods, and I do recycle them.

TheClitterati · 18/03/2019 08:15

"Common". Grin

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/03/2019 08:20

Reduce, reuse and recycle are in that order for a reason. We'd never get one as not it's better to reduce than recycle.

Flobochin · 18/03/2019 10:04

@TheClitterati

You've just proved my point.

TheClitterati · 18/03/2019 11:10

If caring about the environment and prioritising it over personal lifestyle choices, and if caring about the targeting and manipulation of motherhood (over decades) by MegaCorp resulting in death and poor outcomes for babies is common, yeah I totally rock being common.

I'm far from perfect, but do my best re our families environmental impact and not using Nespresso (or any Nestle product for that matter) is a no brainer as far as I am concerned.

Mine is an absolute piece of garbage. A very expensive piece of garbage that doesn't work properly and Nestle have been completely useless at sorting the problem. Which means we'll never buy another.

I plan on buying a drip coffee machine instead.
