Using a neighbours bin ?

I am sure this is a controversial topic on here but here goes, We are moving house shortly and therefore have quite a bit of rubbish to get rid of, some we have taken to the tip already, but our bin is full and we have 2-3 bags of rubbish to get rid of still. Would it be a terrible thing to do to pop it in a neighbours bin, once it is out on bin day ? Will this result in me being a Terrible Person who has no respect for bin etiquette ? I would ask the neighbour but he works shifts so I don't want to bang on his door and wake him up. I am planning on a possible covert operation to sneak rubbish in if he puts it out the night before Grin

If you can't ask him, I'd wait until the last possible minute before putting the rubbish in. I quite often put my bin out the night before but then the morning of bin day I quite often end up with another bag to on so I'd be fuming if my bin had been filled before then. Once I've left for work or if I'd been asked (as my neighbours sometimes do), no problem whatsoever.

Don’t do it without asking - he might have more bags to stick in before the binmen arrive and it’s not fair if he doesn’t have space in his own bin.

Any space left AFTER the bin has been put out on bin day is fair game.

I do this but wait until the bin is out on bin day, and just before the bin lorry comes and when I can see our neighbour is at work.

Agree with PP. Do it when the bin men are coming down the road or when neighbour is clearly out. That way they probably won't be using their bin anymore!

put a note through their door asking if you can do this? Or just take the bags out when the bin men approach.

We are both in work on bin day so can't wait until the bin lorry is in the street, I think I will just hope he puts it out and goes to work before we do !

why can't you just do another run to the tip? Or put a note through his door asking if it's OK to do this?

viccat · 13/03/2019 12:29

I think it's fine on bin day if you are sure he has gone out and his bin is not usually completely full. Obviously make sure your bags are tidy and you put them in the correct bin so there's no issue with his not being collected because of your bags!

Majorcomet · 13/03/2019 12:34

Our neighbour does this and it drives me bonkers. I go out to put extra bags in my bin and it's full or on occasion when the bin lorry breaks down and they don't come for days and someone has filled my bin.

If they have been a good neighbour and asked I would agree they could though if there was room.

FriarTuck · 13/03/2019 12:38

Put a note through their door well in advance asking if it's okay that you pop it in on the day itself when you're heading out to work. It's courteous and they're unlikely to mind. If you do it without asking then it's rude and they might take the bags out and dump them on your doorstep!

SilverySurfer · 13/03/2019 13:23

Note through the door surely is the easiest.
