Citalopram withdrawal - my eye is weird!

Hi there,

Am hoping for some reassurance or advice please, as I can't bring myself to call 111 just yet.

Have been on 20mgs p/d of Citalopram for 2 years following a work induced breakdown.

I'm in a much better place these days, so decided to half my dose this weekend, and took 10mg on Sun and 10mg yesterday.

Have woken up this morning with a dull pain behind my right eye and a feeling like a camera flash has gone off in it.

So - does this sound normal? Should I be concerned? Is this feeling even related to the lower dose?

I will ring 111 or the docs in a bit - just want to know if I'm worrying with just cause!

Thank you x

I ran out of my prescription and went into immediate withdrawal. I have never felt more strange; electric shocks in my brain, flashes in my eyes. It's made me scared to stop.

Did you get advice from your doctor before you started to withdrawal?

I started a Citalopram withdrawal last year and didn't experience anything like this! My symptoms were more a return of the depression but very slowly, to such an extent that I went back to my full dose of 20mg after 5 months and cannot believe the difference!

@Savage - nope, didn't take advice because I know best, obviously! facepalm

I notice a change in myself if I miss even a day's dose but wondered if that was psychosomatic. Haven't had the eye thing before though.

Blobby - I just don't want to be reliant on it forever although I think it's helped me a lot. Deffo don't want to go backwards though!

Speak to your GP, don't just decide :)

You have to come off it dead slow. They can even give it in drops to help. Please see a dr. Good luck

That happened when I came off citalopram, and an electric shock feeling in my head. Awful but it only lasted just over a week.

Not unusual when coming off citalopram, I didn't get that but felt like I was thinking through a fog and had pins and needles in my hands
