Is it any good and will it help my DD (12) and her stupidly heavy periods?

Lovely GP prescribed it today for her and I would just like to be able to give her RL stories of how it has helped because she is just a bit down about it all at the moment.

My DD had very heavy periods at first so she was prescribed tranexamic acid to take on heavy days. Our GP advised to give it 6 months, she also said that pills would be the next step. The first 3 months were very heavy, and DD was taking tablets for quite a few days, then less and then since the 6th month her periods became ok without any tablets. it was 2 years ago.
I didn’t know what it was but GP told me that it’s happened at the very beginning and could be ok afterwards. So hopefully she’s right.

Give it a go. It has made the world of difference for my 12 yr old. She has also just been prescribed Mefenamic Acid too as gynaecologist said they work well together to reduce really heavy periods . Haven’t tried them together yet. No side effects either.

Should also add that she tried Femodene pill too but had massive side effects so only lasted 1 cycle.

Helped me combined with mefenamic acid

I found for me that it didn't kick in until later afternoon. It meant that I spend the daytime stressing as I was still as heavy. But friends have been really successful with it.

It's worth trying x

CrazyCrunk · 12/03/2019 13:41

Why are they trying it before the pill? I wanted it but they made me have the pill instead

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 12/03/2019 22:33

Well, I have to say it's been a miracle cure for her. The bleeding is very drastically reduced and she is much happier in herself. Thank you all for your comments.

Glad it's worked for hers

Wow this is amazing. Did your periods remain lighter when you stopped the acupuncture?

If that was for me - then yes.

Yes it was, sorry! I’m not used to posting anything. That’s wonderful. I feel relieved to know there’s another option as nothing else has worked for me.
Just wondering if there were any other side effects or any other benefits? Eg my skin flares up a little when I’m ovulating. And it’s generally always a little bit teenage!
