Problems with IUD after a year?

I've posted about the problems I've been having lately - constant bleeding for 6 weeks, cramping, bloating and my cervix changing position.

My GP sent me to A&E on Friday as she felt I needed an ultrasound sooner than I could get one with an outpatient referral. But Gynae wouldn't see me and told the A&E doctor that these problems are most likely caused by the coil and to go back to my GP to have it removed. They gave me tranexamic acid to reduce the bleeding and Mefenamic acid for the pain and said my GP needs to refer me for an urgent ultrasound. Neither my GP or the A&E doctor examined me (internally or my abdomen).

Can the coil really be causing these problems after 9 months with no issues? If that's the case then it's easily resolved, but I'm worried that something else is wrong. Everything I've read said that side effects from the IUD usually settle down after 3-6 months. I haven't read anything that says side effects can start after this time.

I've found a clinic where I can get a private ultrasound, but I don't know if I'm worrying needlessly.

Does anyone have any similar experience?

I have an NHS ultrasound booked for today. If anyone has any words of reassurance it'd be much appreciated. I'm very nervous.
