Can anyone tell me what film this is?

It's bugging me! In the film people realise the reality they are in is not real. They are in fact all wearing the same brown clothing, they are not eating real food only a powdery supplement, the TV they are watching is a cardboard screen. They seem to be manipulated by brainwaves telling them they are living in our reality. At the end some of them set off to find out what is really out there. I think it starts off with a man on a suit having a meeting then he goes home to his family?

The Truman Show?

HankNPat · 11/03/2019 07:09

It does sound a bit like that, craving, except everybody with the exception of Truman knows they are playing parts. And TTS is very colourful!!

Iliketeaagain · 11/03/2019 07:21

Is it pleasantville?
They are all grey until gradually life becomes colourful.

I wish I could remember more about it! The people in the town slowly start to see the reality of the environment, people think they are watching TV and it turns out they are watching a cardboard box on the wall almost like a signal is being broadcast which programs them into believing that they are seeing programs on the TV. They realise they are all wearing very similar outfits all plain and brown. They think they are eating normal food when in fact its like dry biscuits. At the end a few of them set out to find the truth.

I thought it could be the Bruce Willis film Surrogates.... But not sure all of the details fit.

thenightsky · 11/03/2019 12:02

Oh God... I know that film too but can't for the life of me think of its title. Angry

FindaPenny · 11/03/2019 12:08

What sort of era is it? 80's, 90's?

finallyfound · 11/03/2019 12:19

1984?
Brazil?
Something from Black Mirror?

Grasping at straws 😂

Palominoo · 11/03/2019 12:30

Jaws.

DitzyPrints · 11/03/2019 12:31

I thought pleasantville too

HankNPat · 11/03/2019 12:37

"Jaws"?? Grin

fantasmasgoria1 · 11/03/2019 12:44

I saw it a few years ago but I just can't remember how long ago. It's definitely not any of the films mentioned.

Sorry for my facetious reply of Jaws. It is a silly joke we had many years ago at work when someone couldn't remember a film and someone said Jaws in all seriousness when it was a musical the person was describing.

So saying Jaws became a silly joke amongst us.

BeautyQueenFromMars · 11/03/2019 13:22

Is it alien film? Maybe 'They Live'?

thenightsky · 11/03/2019 13:27

Just asked DH, who is an uber-geek when it comes to sci-fi films. He has no clue.

MiddleClassProblem · 11/03/2019 13:28

Is there any actor you can place in it? Even if you don’t know the name but have seen them in something else?

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 11/03/2019 13:32

I saw an American show, something like The Twilight Zone, where an increasingly stressed family run around a house which appears to be trapped in another world.

They wore oddly fitting clothes and some creeping ooze was encroaching from one of the rooms.

Turns out, they were programmable dolls, in a dolls' house which the big brother of the owner had hidden in a heating duct to spite his sister.

The creeping ooze was a chocolate bar.

The mother scolds him and tells the little girl that they'll have to reprogram the dolls.

outforawalkbitch2018 · 11/03/2019 13:40

It sounds like an episode of Black Mirror, could it be that?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/03/2019 13:48

Sounds like Virtual Nightmare to me too.
Especially with the cardboard tv and signal being broadcast to their brains.
