What thing for you would you spend £250 on?

My parents gave me £250 for my 40th bday and I want to use it to buy something to keep. I don’t really wear jewellery. Any ideas? I was wondering about a nice bookcase but we have hardly any room at home for more furniture.

A nice wallet.

A good quality handbag/laptop purse.

A weekend away. Or an overnight/36-hour stay in a really good hotel.

A nice high end dinner out.

Paying off some debt.

Saving some of it.

Splurge at a favourite grocery store and bank the rest.

Go to museum and have lunch in the nice museum restaurant, not the cheap cafe.

A grand day out where I do a few of the things above.

Coffee machine

Ink.

A painting

If you read a lot and don’t have a Kindle, £250 would go very far towards a Kindle Paperwhite, a nice cover, and lots of Amazon gift cards to use in book purchases.

You could also look at incorporating an Audible subscription.

A new phone, mine is on the way out.

IPL machine (Phillips Lumea to be precise) I've been tempted by a thread in s&b.

NuffSaidSam · 10/03/2019 22:21

Or theatre tickets.

Elizabeth2019 · 10/03/2019 22:21

A really memorable experience - balloon ride / photography session / wine tasting / theatre show (with a souvenir to show them)

Really nice crystal glasses / tea set / plate set - if you’re into that

Personally, I’d be buying some jewellery as I love it but you should try and be extravagant on something you would never usually have / do but want to

Bloodybridget · 10/03/2019 22:21

Yes, a painting (or a print or something). Or maybe some lovely garment that I would wear for years - but that's a bit of a gamble, that I wouldn't get tired of it, or get too fat or too thin to wear it.

Imacliche · 10/03/2019 22:21

Another pair of doc martens
Some naice toiletries
Chocolate
Im.easily pleased

happypotamus · 10/03/2019 22:29

I would buy some clothes because I really need some decent new clothes and can't afford any. And some new Dr Martens like Imacliche they would be something that would last a long time.

But, if I was given the money for an important birthday, I would probably put it towards a nice holiday/ weekend break rather than an actual thing.

Teeth whitening

A fabulous footstool.
Or weekend away
Lovely watch
Timeless boots
An elegant photo frame or vase plus £100 premium bonds
Sonos

How lovely!! I also got around £250 for my 40th and spent it on a beautiful limited edition print by my favourite artist. (Pam Carter...she's awesome and a very nice lady
pamcarter.co.uk/)

I also got it framed properly and it hangs in the dining room. Every time I look at it, I get a little shiver of delight.

Paperdoll99 · 10/03/2019 23:54

I have some techy stuff I need for work I could spend £250 on.

JingsMahBucket · 11/03/2019 00:01

Also, thinking about it more, I’d spent it on some art courses or food courses. A museum membership would be good as well.

SurgeHopper · 11/03/2019 00:03

A fancy coffee machine

MumUnderTheMoon · 11/03/2019 00:09

Depends on where you are but there is an amazing place in Manchester called the Richmond Tea Rooms is go there for afternoon tea and maybe see a show or do a bit of shopping.

CarolDanvers · 11/03/2019 00:24

Towards a decent lap top.

Flights.

Get my highlights done.

LassOfFyvie · 11/03/2019 00:40

A Hermès scarf. You would have to top it a bit but they are completely timeless. My first one was a gift 25 years ago and it still looks great.

Byrytrain · 11/03/2019 06:26

Fancy wellies Grin I've been lusting after a pair from Le Chameau for months now that I'm slowly saving up to buy. My poor feet are knackered from my crappy wellies that feel every bump under foot.
