Birthday cake decoration help!

Dd2's birthday this week and she has asked for a chocolate button cake. Fairly easy compared to previous years requests (Bb8, light sabers etc) or so I thought I can't decide how to stick the chocolate buttons on. I usually do a basic Victoria sponge and decorate/shape however required. I'm not sure whether to do a buttercream/frosting covering and stick the buttons on that way or do some sort of chocolate ganache(sp!)? Will be decorating with milkybar buttons and the new malteaser counter things. Any suggestions very welcome!

Either would be delicious. Both equally easy. With milky bar buttons I'd go for panache for the contrast.

Lol! Ganache!

I'd do chocolate buttercream - easier to make and work with.

Google "gravity defying Maltesers cake" for a fab idea, there are You Tube videos showing how it's done! (Held in place with wooden skewers)

If you're using white chocolate buttons use vanilla buttercream.
I did two hedgehogs for my DD 2nd birthday & one was with buttons.

Cover the cake with chocolate buttercream and the decorate like this chocolate button flower cake with chocolate fingers around the edge. I think the buttons and Minstrels are cut in half before being pressed into the buttercream.
