Mobile phone coverage- from any provider! How can you check?

IS there a way of finding out whether you'll get any signal in a given place?

I had a bit of a 'moment' just now, recognising that I cannot get signal- or maybe the occasional single bar, in my house or garden. And haven't been able to for ever!

I'm with Asda (PAYG) and live in a suburb of Southampton.

I know I will have to change provider as this is getting a bit silly, but is there anyway of finding out if you stand any chance of coverage in a specific location before committing?

Do you have a local fb page? People regularly post in ours asking how people find the coverage with EE, Vodafone etc.
