Anyone around from Leeds?

Dh is in LGI.
I’m not great at driving in Leeds so wondered if anyone knew the best way for me to get there in terms of getting there, parking and so on.

I’m happy to go by train but if there is a more straightforward way that would be good!

LGI in very near a multi story car park called Woodhouse Lane which you access off the ring road. Where are you coming from?

BornInTheLGI · 10/03/2019 16:59

Sorry - didn't mean to post a full stop. 😂

Leeds is hideous to drive around, even if you know it well. In fact, Heaven help anyone who doesn't know it well (though maybe Sat-Navs etc make it easier - I don't have one, or a fancy phone which gives directions, so I couldn't say).

However, I would strongly advise getting the train. It's a short walk from the station to the LGI. Parking at the LGI is difficult and expensive.

HotCheese · 10/03/2019 17:00

Dh warned me that parking was tricky!

So far the train option is winning!

I’ll be coming from Harrogate area so the train is convenient.

Or the Merrion Centre car park. That’s easy too.

But yes, we would need to know where you are coming from.

SchoolSchool1 · 10/03/2019 17:01

I agree. Get the train, will be much easier and less stressful

furryleopard · 10/03/2019 17:01

LGI is relatively central, certainly walkable from the main rail station in 15 mins or so if not quicker. Leeds a nightmare to drive around if you aren't familiar with it.

Hope DH is ok.

BellaVita · 10/03/2019 17:02

Oh yes, definitely the train if you are in Harrogate.

Sorry DH is in hospital. Is he likely to be in there long?

CosmicCanary · 10/03/2019 17:02

Depends on which way you are coming in to Leeds OP?

If you end up stuck on the loop its a nightmare.

Stripy is correct there is a big multi storey next to the A & E .

Foodylicious · 10/03/2019 17:03

Yep. Get the train.
What wing is he on?

Shesaysso · 10/03/2019 17:03

Yep another vote for the train - Leeds has got a horrendous one way system and the parking around the LGI is shocking. It’s a 10 min walk from the station max.

TapasForTwo · 10/03/2019 17:03

"Leeds is hideous to drive around, even if you know it well."

I agree.

CosmicCanary · 10/03/2019 17:04

Just seen your update.

Train is better.

If you do drive and you are coming padt Park Lane College LGI is very easy to get to.

BornInTheLGI · 10/03/2019 17:08

If you're coming from HG, OP, it's a no-brainer. I hope your DH is ok.

@CosmicCanary The Loop

HotCheese · 10/03/2019 17:09

He’s in coronary care, he had a cardiac arrest yesterday and was in Harrogate hospital, he was transferred to LGI this afternoon.
He’s fine in himself, all his test results are clear. No idea how long he’ll be in as he’ll need tests to find out why it happened and hopefully stop it happening again!

Another one who would recommend the train if coming from Harrogate, much easier and one of the routes you might use has roadworks at the moment.

But if you do drive, Woodhouse Lane car park is reasonably priced compared to others.

SallyWD · 10/03/2019 17:16

Get the train. Its a horrible city to drive around

Confuzzlediddled · 10/03/2019 17:19

Definitely get the train, the parking for LGI is awful, even worse if you're nervous. Hope he's on the mend soon Flowers

ValleyoftheHorses · 10/03/2019 17:20

Train. I work there one day a week and never drive to work.
Flowers get well soon your DH

Orchidflower1 · 10/03/2019 17:22

Just a thought about the home end of the journey- could you park in the premier inn car park and the walk to Harrogate station. Not sure how long you can park there tho but may be cheaper than train car park. Good wishes for dh and for you.

BikeRunSki · 10/03/2019 17:24

Train!

Leeds city centre is a ‘mare to drive round, even if you are familiar with it!
The weather is bad
Your DH is unwell

Let thr train take the strain!

limberlost · 10/03/2019 17:29

I think there is a shuttle bus from the station which goes to LGI. You could probably walk in the time it takes. It goes a tortuous route but useful if you have any issues walking. It used tobefreebut I believe they introduced a charge. Sorry if this is wrong it is a while since I used it.

FermatsTheorem · 10/03/2019 17:47

Flowers for you and your DH. Train definitely. (Memories of my first encounter with the inner ring road in Leeds still brings me out in a cold sweat).

Train it is!

I’ll be parking at the premier inn, free parking and plenty of spaces.

Thank you for the well wishes 😊
