School shirts for tall skinny boy?

keepmehappy · 10/03/2019 09:51

He is 13 - where's good for school shirts that won't totally swamp him? Have tried M and S, Sainsbury's, Asda. If we go down to age 11-12 or even 10-11, they look neat and tidy on his body but are then far too short at the bottom and sleeves! Anything over age 12 is just tent-like. Any tips?

I’m sure next do slim fit and I got my ds slim fit polo shirts from Asda so they may do shirts too.

M&S Longer Length worked for skinny long DS - though tbh most of his excessive length is in his legs (he's the same height as me - I'm about 5'6" - when he sits down, and over 6'2" when he stands up) so we never had so much trouble with shirts.

The issue we found with slim fit was they simply weren't long enough - we needed the longer length. Slim fit longer length would be ideal, but i couldn't find a supplier.

Can I expand the question and add in girls too? DD is 15 & 5’11” - that doesn’t fall into the manufacturers remit it would seem 😕...

FudgeBrownie2019 · 10/03/2019 10:01

DS13 is over 6 foot so we buy longer length everything then have to have them tailored in around the seams. If you Google a seamstress in your local area they're a godsend for tall, skinny children. It's much cheaper doing 5 at a time rather than just one, and means his school uniform all fits perfectly (til the next growth spurt).

keepmehappy · 10/03/2019 10:03

I'll give Next a try then, thanks - the M and S ones were already their skinny fit range but maybe Next is better. Really don't want to have to go to the hassle of getting a flipping seamstress! But maybe that'll have to be the way to go... thanks!!

Are slim fit age 12 or 13 still swamping him?

SilverGiraffe7 · 10/03/2019 10:04

I second the M&S longer length with skinny fit stuff. DS started Y9 in the longest / skinniest they do and it just fit length wise - no idea where I'll shop when he grows even more!
(Great that he can change lightbulbs for me without a step. Clothing him; not so much...) Grin

keepmehappy · 10/03/2019 10:05

Yes, totally, Iggy. He's really skinny! They billow out behind him and he feels he needs pegs to hold it all together! 🤣🤣

Keepme,

Have you tried the longer length M&S? Slim fit just won't be long enough IME, so then you have to size up in terms of age ... and then it all goes wrong!

cantkeepawayforever · 10/03/2019 10:06

I mourn the loss of BhS for this stuff - they had the absolute best school uniform for unusually tall slim boys.

keepmehappy · 10/03/2019 10:08

I didn't actually notice longer length in M and S - maybe I need to try there again. Only saw Regular and Slim fit.

You have to order longer length online. It's never sold in store IME. Just get it delivered to store, try it on there, and return if you're not happy.

cantkeepawayforever · 10/03/2019 10:20

Again IME, the longer length aren't skinny in fit BUT the fact that they are long enough to tuck firmly into trousers (and in DS's case belted firmly, as he has to belt his trousers since his waist / length combination aren't manufactured) mean that they don't puff up like balloons when worn!

EleanorLavish · 10/03/2019 10:27

I've gone online and can't see any longer length....

Bigearringsbigsmile · 10/03/2019 10:30

Fudgebrownie can I recommend next mens skinny fit shirts?
My 15 year old is 6 foot ish and very very slim. The next skinny fit are perfect.

keepmehappy · 10/03/2019 10:39

Big earrings, DS is only about 5'5" at the moment - I guess still too short for those Next ones?

here

keepmehappy · 10/03/2019 10:42

Thanks! I'll order a pack of 11-12. Here's hoping it won't be the third lot gathering dust till he grows into them! 😁😁

Sturdy Kids is my go to school uniform shop now, they cater for every shape and style!

keepmehappy · 10/03/2019 10:47

Just had a look at that, Angel - seems to be just larger clothes, though. DS is looking for tight stuff, and he's not tall...

Keepmehappy. Worth a try? The smallest size might work? They have them in store to try.
