Mine a family holiday to the canaries in my early 20s. Spent most of it in a pleasant alcohol haze.

Travelling around Asia for 3 months. Mind blowing.

France with my now DH just before kids. Totally chill, wine, cheese, markets, sun.

Italy after kids. Great food, beautiful scenery. Some fabulous day excursions.

What are yours and why?

A week in the Lake District, we go regularly and take our caravan but one year we turned up on a working farm, pitched up on a basic field and quickly realised there was no tv or phone signal.
We were gutted at first but it ended up being a fantastic week, we got to know everyone else there and spent the days in the mountains and the evenings outside with everyone around a bbq with a drink.

It's the only holiday I've ever cried on when we had to come home.

Mexico this February.

Mexico City - Frida Kahlo’s House, pyramids at Teotihuacán, walking around the Mexican version of Pompeii and being the only ones there, being invited to a barbecue at the home of our guide’s friends, the Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Anthrolopogy, Chapultepec Park. Amazing.

Then onto the Four Seasons resort at Punta Mita for a week of total relaxation, warm seas, white beaches, cold cocktails, whale-watching, baby turtle releasing...utter, utter bliss.

And the food is amazing.

Aurora Borealis chasing. Nothing will ever compare to that.

Trip to France with my friends after A-levels. Amazing holiday.

Weeks honeymoon in Perth Scotland. People scoffed at our 'low key honeymoon' but it was amazing. Brilliant weather, lochs, gorgeous cottage, lovely food. Lying in bed all day sometimes.

Disneyland with the kids was stressful but exciting.

Tenerife - amazing family holiday just after me and DH were getting back on track after after a ticking period. Lots of relaxing, swimming, talking, kissing and secret shagging.

Milicentbystander72 · 10/03/2019 10:51

Ticking=tough.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 10/03/2019 10:53

South Africa. So much to do and see, amazing people, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. We came back feeling that there was no point ever going on another holiday because nothing would ever compare.

I'm planning to bring the kids to Lapland next, for husky driving and northern lights and reindeer (and a bit of Santa). We all agreed that after 45 degrees in SA, it might be time for a cold trip!

Boston and New England with now DH. We did 3 nights in Boston, then hired a car and drove around New England for 2 weeks. We didn't have any accommodation booked other then in Boston. We'd drive, find a nice town, book a room for a couple of nights, then move on. We went to Salem, Cape Cod, where we did a spot of whale watching, the White Mountains, Plymouth, and loads of other places. Loved it!

lottielady · 10/03/2019 11:01

skippy67 that sounds brilliant, I’d love to visit Boston.

A 2 week trip to Florida when I was 18 with my parents. Had a few days in Orlando doing the parks, then travelled around Florida, the Everglades, Gulf coast etc. I loved it, always wanted to go back

Another was a few year ago, went on my own to Paris for a few days then met up with my friends in Milan. It was August and the weather was amazing. Stayed in a hostel those few days in Paris and met other travellers that i went out with/went sightseeing on my own. Then I got the train to Milan and met up with my friends, had a few days there with them drinking/eating and went to Lake Como for a few days. I like my alone time so was the perfect mixture of that and then also meeting up with friends

Egypt - I had just turned 30 and found out I was expecting DC1. Me and OH always wanted to go. We snorkelled with the fish every day and visited the pyramids. Amazing.

TSSDNCOP · 10/03/2019 11:22

A day in Lapland. Just fab.

DS (10 at the time) and I got a train from NYC to Washington DC and spent 3 days there. We had a blast.

Either Kavos 2011 (I was 21) or Benidorm 2016 (I was 26). Both stand out hilarious holidays with close friends. I go on holiday about 3 times a year including Benidorm every year but 2016 was amazing, still the best by far!

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 10/03/2019 14:02

Loving these. Giving me lots of inspiration.

Barbados absolutely loved it, the sea was like a huge turqoise swimming pool, the food was amazing, the local people were so freindly, just the best holiday ever, not cheap as bajans have a decent standard of living but worth every penny we spent

Sakura7 · 10/03/2019 14:09

Vietnam was an amazing experience. So much history, and the food is to die for!

Closer to home, I love Croatia. There's a lovely little village called Cavtat just south of Dubrovnik. You can get a boat into the old town, it's just stunning.

iklboo · 10/03/2019 14:10

Cruise to Norway a couple of years ago. Great weather, breathtaking scenery and we kayaked down a fjord. Amazing.

BitchQueen90 · 10/03/2019 14:16

So far it's been taking DS to Lapland last December. Wonderful memories.

But I'm not very well travelled and am making up for that over the next few years so it could change.

ValleyoftheHorses · 10/03/2019 14:42

New Zealand with friends pre DH
Pre DS- Our honeymoon in Bali, Lombok and Singapore followed by Australia
Since DS- Lapland and Florida

Seeline · 10/03/2019 14:58

Probably the best family holiday when my DC were little was a brilliant fortnight on the Isle of Wight! Weather was perfect, beach was gorgeous, and lots to do with little ones.
My own favourite was with DH on our honeymoon to Iceland. It was over 20 years ago now, before everyone had discovered it, and was lovely.
