Should I take paracetamol?

Just looking for a bit of advice please. I have quite severe health anxiety so I tend to always overthink things.
Yesterday I started to feel a quite poorly, aching body, shivering one minute then sweating the next. My throat feels a bit grainy and I’m coughing but only a bit. My chest feels tight like I’m going to get a chest infection maybe.
I have a raised temperature of 38.5. Not massively high but enough to make me feel rotten. I took paracetamol last night and it lowered slightly and made me feel a bit better, however when it wears off I start to feel very shivery again.
But then I read that taking painkillers to lower a temperature can actually prolong the virus because the body is responding to the germs and the heat kills it off quicker. So am I making myself worse in the long run by taking paracetamol?
Sorry for the long post.

best would be to rest in bed and sleeping as much as you can.
but if a sore head prevents you from resting then taking paracetamol or ibuprofen is ok.
drink plenty, preferably warm drinks.
hope you feel better soon.

Yes it will bring temp down and make you feel better, it will also help the aches and pains.

2 tablets at least 4-6 hours apart with no more than 8 in 24 hours, hope you are feeling better soon
