Child benefit entitlement

Is there any advantage to retaining CB entitlement if you don't qualify for CB?

DD1 is turning 16. We got a letter saying tell us if she's staying at school etc and you can retain entitlement even though you don't get any payment. There is no chance we will qualify for payment of CB in the next few years. Is there any reason to retain entitlement? such as it qualifies or passports you to some other entitlement? Anyone know? Rather odd I thought that the letter doesn't say why this is even a thing.

It used to be that claiming child benefit gave you credits on your national insurance contributions that went towards your state pension, useful if you have been a sahm
Which is why it’s normally in the mother’s name
Not sure if it’s still the case

Yes you still get the credits but their is an age limit. I thought it was 9 ... must check actually.

I think you get NI credits up to the age of 12.
