Has anyone studied AAT?

Today I've enrolled on a course, AAT level 2 in Accountancy. I'm a 30 year old SAHM and haven't really worked in the last 8 years and I've decided to study this in the hopes of it helping me build a career in accountancy.

I have 2 young DC (5 and 2) and a DH who is rarely here because of work commitments but I really need to start focusing on my prospects and doing what I can to make myself employable.

I'm just wondering, if you've done the course, did it give your career a good boost? Also, any words of wisdom & advice much appreciated. Thanks

I went straight to level 3 AAT, after doing city and guilds bookkeeping level 2. I’ve already got a great job working for a local charity and am just starting my level 4. My job is part time and v family friendly at the moment, and I will continue studying as I go along so that when they’re older and I’m ready to go full time, I’ll have some good qualifications under my belt. I would recommend AAT as it gives you a good understanding of things like double entry, accruals etc, which gives you a sound knowledge base to build upon.

Yes, I did aat and then went on to do part qualified with cima. I’m now a self employed accountant with loads of clients and work as and when needed around kids etc. It’s amazing. Best thing I ever did.

Hemlock it's early days for me but that is the dream 👍🏻 sounds amazing.

I'm currently studying AAT Level 2. I'm really enjoying it. I hope to finish L2 by the time my children start their summer holidays and then I'll start my L3 when they go back in September.
Good luck!

I did a basic level 1 bookkeeping course, I might do the level 2 one. I don’t know if I’ll become a bookkeeper, but it’s a good skill I reckon.

Have you started yet OP? How are you finding it?

I put myself through level 2, absolutely loved it, and landed a job in a practice near the end. I'm now doing level 3, and highly likely to do level 4 🙈 Bit scared about it though!

Do you know what you want to do? I just knew I wanted to work with numbers. And now I practically run the payroll & outsourcing dept!
