Are fasting diets just a way to reduce overall calories or is there some other effect that increases weight loss?

Just interested more in the science of fasting. Is it just another way to cut calories?

So for instance if I ate 2000 calories over an eight hour period rather than a thirteen hour period would I lose weight? Or is the whole point that you'd eat less calories if you can only eat in an 8 hour window?

The whole point is that by limiting the time period in which you eat, you’ll likely ingest fewer calories over a week.

All diets work the same way: they all reduce calories. Whether that’s by restricting certain foods or food groups, the amount of time you can eat or whatever else.

It's partly about insulin. Every time you eat you release insulin which is not good for weight loss.

I had good results in improving my blood sugar by fasting, I didn't lose a single pound but it made a difference.

There are lots of additional benefits to fasting above weight loss. Try googling autophagy fasting

Thanks. I've just had a look at autophagy. Interesting!
