Where do you charge phones & tablets?

Oldest DC has just got their first phone. We want to set some boundaries, around where phones are kept overnight, and tbh could do with some of those boundaries ourselves. Curious to know if people have a dedicated area where all the tech charges, or just on bedside tables in each room. And charging overnight or not?

We've got chargers in every room apart from the loos Grin

I charge my phone downstairs whilst at home and take it up to my bedside table at night. No charger for phone in my bedroom though, only apple watch charges there. Kids have chargers in their rooms, DH charges his downstairs in kitchen.

Rockbird · 08/03/2019 14:04

Same as FiveLittlePigs. Chargers everywhere!

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 08/03/2019 14:06

Downstairs in the dining room. If they're not plugged in at bedtime I go on a reconnaissance mission.

Dh and I both have a phone charger by our bed, we both charge them overnight.
There is also one in the kitchen

sugarbum · 08/03/2019 14:11

No phones allowed upstairs after 8pm.
Main charging point is in the utility room. I charge my own stuff in my sewing room.
Other plugs do get used, but that generally results in lost chargers...

No charging over night. I mean its happened before, but generally we switch anything that charges off.
That includes toothbrushes, because the shaver sockets produce a low level hum that drives me nuts, but DH cannot hear.

My DC are nearly adults now, so we have chargers all over the place and charger thievery is a common and hotly contested crime in our house. The bloody bastard things seem to break every two minutes as well - I must have spent hundreds of pounds on the string fuckers in the last decade.

When the DC were early teens, then lights out was lights out and if I saw telltale blue light under their doors, phones were removed for their own wellbeing! Which meant that instead of their phone alarm going off in the morning, they were softly woken by my gentle, dulcit tones (as if!).

Nowadays, one is at Uni, so no idea what the hell he does and the other is in 6th form, so I like to pretend that I know what she does but I'm usually more knackered than she is at the end of the day, so the chances of me being awake late enough to blue light check under her door are slim.

Anyhow, we're probably not shining examples of good device hygiene, so I think go for 'your house your rules'! However, despite my general slackery, we've not had any issues or problems.

No phones in bedrooms overnight, and that includes us parents.

DH and I charge our phones downstairs in the living room overnight. Our kids have their phones and iPads on charge on the landing upstairs, because they obviously neeeeeed them the second they wake up, lol.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 08/03/2019 14:24

Several charging points in the kitchen. Phones and iPads are charged at night. I have a portable charger too, if I use stuff a lot during the day.

olderthanyouthink · 08/03/2019 14:55

Chargers everywhere. I had a phone from 11 (23 now) and I slept with it one charge most of the time and still do.

Admittedly social media wasn't quite as much as it is now but we had MSN, then Facebook, then Instagram and then Snapchat when I was in secondary, so perfectly capable of cyber-bullying/being cyber-bullied and sexting and stuff.

I'm fine except for the extra fingers from the radiation...

RiverTam · 08/03/2019 14:57

I would never charge anything in the bedroom!

All done in the kitchen or living room (or at work).

Moreisnnogedag · 08/03/2019 15:05

Our phones are charged next to the bed overnight as are both of our dc iPads/kindle fire things. For both of the kid’s devices there are ways to lock them out (and for the iPad DS can send a request for more time) after a set time or if they have been on it for a period of time.

There are also charger cables everywhere.

IHaveBrilloHair · 08/03/2019 15:07

Mine in the kitchen, Dd17's in her room.

pocketdelia · 08/03/2019 16:07

We have a wooden docking station where we charge 3 phones, iPad and ear pods and keeps them tidy too. It sits on the kitchen sideboard.

youngfarmer · 08/03/2019 16:09

No chargers in the bedrooms, phones charged in the kitchen and tablets in the living room

Troels · 08/03/2019 18:07

We have no phones in the bedrooms, all go on charge in the living room. Dh put one of those sockets with USB ports along the top, works great.
One of these It's a race to the decent cables I need to buy new ones.

Geometric · 08/03/2019 19:10

Thanks all! I may have just got lost on Pinterest looking at a whole new world of DIY charging stations - think we might be going for a more basic arrangement!
