How do you clean your glasses?

Just gone from never wearing glasses to needing them full time. My twins were quite scared of them initially but one is now very interested and keeps taking them off me and putting them back on me - now my lenses are all smeary with greasy toddler finger prints and the cloths that came with them only smear it around!

Is there some product I should use to get greasy toddler finger prints off them? His twin may need glasses soon so suspect I’ll have more trouble there as well!

Aldi do little cleaning wipes and they do a great job. MIL has a little cloth and a spray that she loves using. Micro-fibre cloths are good too.

GreenThing · 08/03/2019 12:10

I've worn glasses for years.

Annoyed's suggestions are absolutely the thing to do, but I just breathe on mine and wipe them with my t-shirt. Grin

I find those wipes end up smearing my glasses no matter how much I wipe them. I now use calotherm spray and cloth I got from my optician (also on Amazon). I don't use the spray everyday but as a long time glasses wearer the cloth is the best one I've ever tried and there's been a lot!

Fairy liquid and water. Window cleaner and a cloth. Both good ways to clean glasses.

SinkGirl · 08/03/2019 12:13

Thank you - will crack out the window cleaner, why didn’t I think of that?!

Don't use window cleaner, it'll strip the coating off your lenses!

shoofly · 08/03/2019 12:23

Hot soapy water with fairy liquid....generally before I put the dirty dishes in 😉

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 08/03/2019 12:24

what GreenThing said - warm breath, rub with vest. Genuinely more effective than any cloth/product combination I've tried.

IHeartKingThistle · 08/03/2019 12:25

Badly.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 08/03/2019 12:28

I’ll second Aldi wipes. Tgey work better than anything else on my glasses (and I’ve tried plenty of different things) and they cost less than £1 for a box. Keep a few in your handbag for when you’re out with the twins.

LeesPostersAreInFrames · 08/03/2019 12:28

"Badly."

Ditto 😁

You get desensitized to walking around with dirty lenses, then one day you won't be able to see for the blurs, You'll take them off and be amazed it got so bad! Then you'll wipe on your top and carry on Wink

SinkGirl · 08/03/2019 12:30

Thanks all - okay, no window cleaner, will find some wipes and make do with my top until then 😂

Use dishwasher, open dishwasher door, place glasses in steam, polish on anything to hand.

NoonAim · 08/03/2019 12:31

Sainsbury's glass cleaner spray and a microfibre cloth, no smears at all.

justasking111 · 08/03/2019 12:32

I have been known to clean them in the shower lol. Otherwise I use the spray from the opticians and a clean piece of kitchen towel, that fabric type one.

RiverTam · 08/03/2019 12:36

depends on the glasses - mainly I've been fine with me breathing on them and cleaning with a glasses-cleaning cloth, but my current pair I can only get clean and smear-free with soap and water.

You also need to teach your DC not to touch your glasses!

BigbreastsBiggerbeard · 08/03/2019 12:39

Another one for in the shower - may as well as I often forget to take them off! Give them a good rub with antibacterial soap and then dry with kitchen roll later.

ApolloandDaphne · 08/03/2019 12:45

You take them off and start to rub them on your top then your DH whips a little lens cloth from his back pocket and hands it to you with a stern look.

Disclaimer: This may only happen in my house!

36degrees · 08/03/2019 12:48

Apollo that's exactly how it works in our house, too.

BibbityBobbityEars · 08/03/2019 12:49

Spray bought at the opticians and cloth that came with the glasses. Costs £3 and lasts a month or so. I clean mine 2/3 times a day.

justasking111 · 08/03/2019 12:49

You know they bang on about our phones, remote controls being germ central, I guess our specs are too, not just the glass but the frames when I think about it.

FrozenMargarita17 · 08/03/2019 12:51

I just wipe them on my T-shirt 🙈

ElizabethMainwaring · 08/03/2019 12:52

I use the window cleaner glass spray. Have done for over twenty years. Never had any problems. It seems (and smells) exactly like the special glasses cleaner you get in a tiny bottle.

RiverTam · 08/03/2019 12:53

I really wouldn't wipe them on your clothes as the coating on them wear off which is a pain.

raspberrycordial · 08/03/2019 12:58

A quick huff on them and wipe with the edge of whatever top I'm wearing and they come up sparkling. Worked for my granny, it'll do for me too Grin
