Light hearted- Does anyone else's handbag turn into a black hole?

Mine does.

I have a handbag/shopper with two pockets either side of a central zipper pocket.

The central zipper pocket is where I keep my phone, charger and cable and my wallet.

Without fail, I can never find one or more of these items when I need them.

In a small, zipper pocket which has a wallet, a works lanyard, a charging cable and a charger plug.

The pockets either side have their moments too.

Where do these items hide?

I always think a light should come on when a handbag is opened, so flipping dark it’s hard to find anything!

stayathomer · 08/03/2019 02:01

It's always AFTER I put something small into my bag that I think I should have put it into the pocket of it but in reality that would mean everything would be in the pockets and nor the bag!! The worst is keys, they disappear quickest!

RomanticFatigue · 08/03/2019 02:27

Yep. I'm trying to find a hair band atm and have gone into my work bag. I know there is one in there, but I've hoisted out headphones, pens, pencils, sanitary towels, 50 billion receipts, two umbrellas, but no bloody hair band. I know it's in there.

I actually have a little LED torch in a side pocket.

Keep forgetting it's there though...Hmm

I use a variety of handbags. Some have 1 or 2 zip pockets inside and outside... It is amazing how many times I have' lost' a bank card or my phone, knowing it is in there somewhere, had everything out the bag, checked it twice, put it all back, checked it again, there it is!

KirstyJC · 08/03/2019 07:37

I had to empty mine yesterday looking for a letter. I didn't find it but I did find a spoon, a packet of twiglets, a wispa bar, net pants and rubber gloves (I work in a hospital) and 4 sachets of brown sauce.

I once lost an expensive pen in a handbag. Turns out it was in the lining.

My new handbag has a handy clip inside for my car keys so I can quickly grab them amongst all the receipts, painkillers, handcreams, letters, old pound coins and hair bands - game changer!!

Colleagues at worked remarked that my phone case was a very bright shade of lime green. I explained that I deliberately choose bright ( and different) colours for purse, phone case, glasses case etc. All to try to help find things in my 'Mary Poppins' handbag. It's not very stylish but helps a bit.

Justanotheruser01 · 08/03/2019 09:54

Im really good at putting my car key in my bag when ive taken it out the ignition... To then have to fish it out again to lock and its always somehow managed to find its way to narnia

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 08/03/2019 11:02

What annoys me is that sometimes, I take stuff out of my bag and reduce the contents to absolute essentials and still manage to lose stuff.

I have bought a set of 3 see through toiletry bags from Primark to solve this problem. I use the smallest one for the small things I usually lose. It’s handy for when I change handbags.

MulticolourMophead · 08/03/2019 11:25

I've been using Mia Tui handbags. Fabulous, pockets and clips and water bottle holders 😁 I can lay my hands on anything now. And they look nice.

Oliversmumsarmy · 08/03/2019 11:37

I have resolved this issue.

I don’t own a handbag.

Haven’t done for many years.

I have my phone, credit card and keys. I am usually holding my phone and credit card and keys go into my zipped pocket.

I have never carried cash.

KurriKurri · 08/03/2019 11:40

I made a mistake of getting a much bigger handbag so it was easier to find stuff in it - of course all that happened is I put more stuff in it. I have things in there to cover every eventuality, yet if ever those eventualities arise, i won;t be able to find the appropriate item Grin

dangermouseisace · 08/03/2019 14:17

I’ve got a rucksack like that. It’s not massive, it’s school backpack size but is an expensive outdoor brand so has LOADS of zips, pockets and clasps. I regularly lose fairly large items in there. I’ve lost my phone for days in there, and recently I lost my large faced running watch for nearly a week in my bag. I can look, and look, and pull everything out and the item is not there, and then suddenly, after a few days, it appears again inside the bag in a completely obvious place. Thank god for Find my Phone/Find my watch (unless the item has no charge...which is when they get lost for ages).

I’m sure my bag actually temporarily consumes my personal items and has a laugh at me getting annoyed trying to find things. Then it regurgitates them at will. Bastard.

TheWashingMachine · 08/03/2019 14:20

I keep it minimal, lip balm, travel pass, purse, phone, specs and paracetamol.

MulticolourMophead · 08/03/2019 15:56

I cant go as minimal as Oliversmumsarmy, I have to carry spares for my hearing aids, but I do keep things light.

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 08/03/2019 17:07

My DM definitely had one in her bag. Or perhaps it was a wormhole. Or maybe her handbag was a tardis. Anyway you could be talking to her in a shop one second, the next she would be on the other side of the shop casually browsing. You'd never see her walking over there.

Meowandthen · 11/03/2019 20:13

Handbags are sentient. They know when you really need something or are in a hurry - and then they make it disappear. Utter, utter bastards.
