Question for anyone who works for the blood donation service

I gave blood just now, have done so a few times before. All was fine and I was being tipped upright and led back to the biscuit table when the HCA with me called out to the HCA on the biscuit table ‘green card’ about me. I asked the biscuit guy what that meant and he said I was only allowed a cold drink (not a hot one) but didn’t explain and then was off helping someone else. Can anyone shed any light on why this was !? I felt fine- they’ve never said that before. Maybe I was pale? I did fill the bag up v quick- could that have been it!? No one else got green card shouted at them. It’s made me paranoid!

I was under the impression you were to avoid hot caffeinated drinks afterwards as it causes your body temp to rise, and as well as the diuretic in the tea/coffee, isn't good at all for rehydration which is important. No idea what the green card thing is though, maybe that you were ok? As for filling the bag quickly that just means you have a good blood volume and your heart is pumping well

@BricksInTheWall thanks for your reply. Yes others got a cup of tea there, not me with my green card though Grin. I will just have to ask next time!

Usually if you are new or haven't given blood in a while -that's what they told me last time as it had been a couple of years since my last donation. Not sure about the rationale
