Hi Everyone,

I just wondered if anyone could give me some ideas about the area, carpenders park/ south oxhey. We're first time buyers planning to move out of london and settle near london so that we can still manage the daily commute to london. We viewed couple of houses in in watford but found it to be quite small terraced house with potential difficulty finding parking spaces. We've viewed some houses in carpenders park where the houses are much spacious but the area seems to be a bit dodgy or is it just me being bit too anxious!! Help :)

Hi
I moved to South Oxhey in 2018 on a new development. After reading a few posts online I was worried about the area but I have to say it’s lovely and it’s such a easy commute into London. The area is excellent for services all within walking distance including GPs, dentists, nail salon, Tesco express, Indian take away, Greggs, nisa, coffee shop, library etc. In 2021 there will be an Aldi too. There is a few primary schools and it’s within the catchment area of Watford grammar girls. I think it’s a hidden gem overshadowed by an old reputation

I don't live there but until recently used to live near. It is the only area in the vicinity which voted in a BNP councillor if my memory serves me right.

So if that floats your boat...

It is rather down at heel. It is cheap for a reason. Wouldn't choose to live there personally.

Or buy anywhere at the moment as a FTB - can you even get a mortgage at the moment? I thought most lenders were limiting mortgages to 60% of the value of the property in anticipation of further price falls? Shock

Carpenders Park would probably be better than South Oxhey, unless you have already moved which case.. welcome.Grin

I don't live there but I do work for the emergency services and we go to South Oxhey a LOT.
