Anyone else with a shouty toddler?

She's 2.8yo and is really coming into herself. She's so shouty! About 70% happy shouty and 30% cross shouty. She rarely takes in what I say because she's so busy shouting.

"CAN I HAVE MILK PLEASE MUMMY?"
"Yes you can have milk"
"MIIILLLLKKKK PLLEEASSEEE"
"yes I am getting you milk now"
"I WANT MILK PLEEAASSSEEE" (said in irate tone)
"please do not shout at me. I won't get you milk if you shout at me" "sorry mummy"
"thank you. can you ask me nicely now please"
"milk please mummy"

She has great manners and is a delight, she just shouts everything all the time. She does have mild hearing loss but so does her sister who was nothing like this. I genuinely feel like it's toddlerishness. Consultant says she doesn't come near the realms of needing hearing aids and she has a hearing teacher who pops in a few times a year who agrees.

But oh my god. All day every day and I'm so done with it. Anyone else have this? Any strategies?

Yes, my third is like this. Exactly as you describe. She’s 22 months. And it’s basically:

Toddler: WANT MILK PLEASE MUMMY!!!
Me: please don’t shout at me, darling
Toddler: ok milk please mummy (in a much more reasonable tone)

With every conversation Grin

The key for me that indicated she’s just shouty and that it’s not a hearing thing is that she always manages a much more reasonable volume when asked to.

I put it down to being the youngest of three and fighting for her place. It’s beginning to pass, thankfully.

My mum wears hearing aids and first thing in the morning when she hasn't put them in, she speaks very very loudly until you point it out to her.She then speaks at a normal volume.
However, you know your Dd!

Yup. 22 month old here who is exactly the same. She shouts at everything - not helped by the 5 year old who is also incredibly loud.

Jesus, yes. And the screaming...

Interesting @goldenhoops although I really don't think it's her hearing (but of course can't be sure) because this is a relatively new thing and her hearing level is the same. Also accompanied by a loud high pitch screeching.

We are a loud and busy household (of 5) in general so that is probably a contributing factor. She's the middle child and it could be an attention thing (although she gets lots).

For now I'm assuming it's a toddler thing but my god some days I just want to tear my ears off!! This morning just before posting I had tears in my eyes I am so sick of the screeching. This too shall pass hey?!
