Is this anything to worry about? We are due to see the dentist soon so I will be asking and he hasn’t shown any concern at previous appointments but it’s jusr dawned on me. He’ll be starting secondary school in 18 months. I don’t remember anyone losing teeth after primary school or do they? I can’t imag the rest of his teeth all falling out in such a short space of time!

My dd got her last one at 15. She was late losing all her teeth. The dentist just did xrays and as long as the adult teeth were there she wasnt concerned.

We don’t have secondary school here but ds is 12 and year 8 and lost a couple of teeth only recently. No problems.

My dd (11) is at secondary and has probably lost about the same number. The dentist has put her on the orthodontist waiting list for braces and reckons by the time she gets to the top of the list the others will have gone (which is probably code for "we'll deal with it then") . I can't remember my own experience (in my 50s).

DS had only lost 8 at 10, now has lost 10 at almost 13, no more wobbly yet. Dentist wasn't worried at last check up 5 months ago.

My ds1 has all is adult teeth by 10 but the Dentist said this was unusual and around 13 was normal?

AuntVanya · 07/03/2019 07:07

DS is 11 and Yr7. He lost another tooth last week. Don't know how many more are to come. In quite a few places, his adult tooth came through and 'missed' his baby tooth so his mouth has been quite crowded and it's taken the baby teeth longer to come out. Dentist unconcerned!

cptartapp · 07/03/2019 07:08

Both my DS were the same. DS1 at 16 had to have baby teeth pulled so they could fit his braces, would have been waiting forever otherwise.

AuntVanya · 07/03/2019 07:09

I'm more worried about myself: I've got all my DCs lost teeth in a container in my bedside table. I can't throw them away. I don't know why!!!

sandybayley · 07/03/2019 08:18

DS1 never lost four of his baby teeth because he didn't have the adult teeth.

He ended up having them removed and then braces to move teeth around and a plate to fill in a couple of gaps. It's a genetic thing (my sister has it) and shows up with an x-ray when the dentist can't see the adult teeth in the gums.

Sandy that’s interesting to know . My dd only had 19 baby teeth and 2 of her adult teeth haven’t come in despite falling out a year ago . Dentist said she might be missing them . I was wondering what they would do if they don’t ever come through .

@wendz86 - google hypodontia!

My Ds(14) has just lost his last baby tooth, it's was hanging on for dear life, years after the others had fallen out.
I wouldn't worry.

Hughes12345 · 07/03/2019 09:32

Thankyou all for the reassurance. He was late getting his first tooth-16 months. I’ll tick this worry off my list 😄
