Glasgow explosives linked with London ones

The explosives posted to Glasgow today have been linked to those in London yesterday.

An attempt has been made to make them appear they came from Ireland.

I wonder if they are the work of some twat hoping to ignite Irish tensions given all the discussions regarding the Irish backstop going on at the moment Angry

I wondered about that too. I thought during the Troubles there was never any bombing in Scotland, so why now?

Exactly. Makes no sense.

There was some targeted bombing in Glasgow, 1979. Glasgow and Scotland has sectarianism too. It's too early, just out my bed, but between the Indy Ref, Brexit and now this I'm hoping no one is out to noise it up.

Some of Husband's family served in Ireland, one always said if it ever sparked again Scotland wouldn't be given a pass, but how much weight one man's opinion carries I wouldn't like to say.

There were bombings in Scotland during the Troubles and many a scare. The police cordoned off our street as suspected parcel bomb was in the sorting office. There was also an evacuation of shops in Princes Street , Edinburgh.

I'm wondering why Glasgow uni? Disrupting classes for a day seems pointless.
Luckily DD had the sense to text and say I'm OK, in Byres Road.

MrsAmaretto · 07/03/2019 23:26

Aah, was that all fairly early on then? I only remember coverage of English bombings.

Goodness knows why the chose Glasgow Uni, very scary for all involved.

I don't know - does the university have a large number of international students?

It has a VERY large number of international students.
I do remember my Glasgow primary having a bomb scare in about 1975/6. I was very small at the time and we had to evacuate to the far end of the playing field instead of the playground.

Apparently the IRA have now claimed responsibility. I'm guessing this has been set up to make it look like its the IRA though.
