Other than working in a library

Definitely a good bank ( mine is oversubscribed Hmm).

Or animal rescue charity work.

I wish I had the time!

ShePutTheHamsterWhere · 06/03/2019 14:55

Food bank!!

x2boys · 06/03/2019 15:02

Probably something to do with children with disabilities, as my son has complex disabilities.

Lardlizard · 06/03/2019 15:10

Oh yeah food bank, that’s a good one

I used to volunteer with guide dogs. I’ll go back to it once baby is a bit older.

ABC1234DEF · 06/03/2019 16:15

Special constable. Have passed the recruitment process but was rejected at the 11th hour on medical grounds.

AllGoodDogs · 06/03/2019 16:23

I'm desperate to be a guide dog puppy fosterer person, but we already have a 14 year old dog so wouldn't be fair to him.

Other than that it would be a toss up between maternity unit and an animal rescue centre.

PlumCakeChica · 06/03/2019 16:29

Food poverty/food waste. Like the charity Fair Share.

Tensixtysix · 06/03/2019 16:32

Over the years I have done several voluntary jobs, some in the evening, some at weekends...

Meals on wheels (before it went to council)
Befriending and free gardening (for elderly)
Conservation work
Dog walking and cat cuddling at a local animal charity
Admin person/lunch helper for a local pre-school

I would like to help out at a food bank one day. But I hope they don't exist in the future!
Really should not be a need for them in 21st Century Britain Sad

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 06/03/2019 16:32

I’ve volunteered in a library. Not allowed to use the computers or research anything, so I spent three hours tidying shelves each time, or putting returned books back on them. Boring

I’ve tried several times to volunteer for the local food banks, but they say they have no vacancies.

Backwoodsgirl · 06/03/2019 16:42

De fuse land mines in a warm country somewhere.

tierraJ · 06/03/2019 16:43

I would like to foster kittens but it wouldn't fit in with my job!

GregoryPeckingDuck · 06/03/2019 16:47

I would give tours at the zoo I went to as a child.

Sadiesnakes · 06/03/2019 16:52

Animal rescue. I did it for 3 years, fostering kittens, looking after pregnant cats, feeding them well, and helping them give birth and giving them a safe space to look after their litter. It was so lovely, but had to stop because I got very ill towards the end of a pregnancy. I'd love to do it again though.

hennipenni · 06/03/2019 16:59

I would volunteer for either the children’s trust or Headway, I would love to have the time to give something back for all the help and support we get with our daughter who has an acquired head injury.

boringlyboring · 06/03/2019 16:59

What Sadiesnakes said.

My nearest CP had an ad for volunteers to help socialise kittens. I would do this all day, everyday but I can’t get to them ☹️ the place is rural and no transport directly to them.

WellGoshDarnIt · 06/03/2019 17:04

Dog hugging 🤗. I could do that all day.

DiscoMoo · 06/03/2019 17:08

I’m a running coach, our club has good links with the local Mind group so we also focus on mental health and well-being including hosting seminars.

moosesormeece · 06/03/2019 17:08

I'd be a CAB advisor. I sat in with an advisor for a few hours once and it's clear they make a huge difference to the lives of people who are seriously stuck and don't know where else to turn. It must be immensely satisfying to be able to step in when someone is being unfairly evicted or having disability benefits taken off them (for example) and provide practical help.

GemmeFatale · 06/03/2019 17:31

@allgooddogs some of the service dog charities also use volunteers to help with other tasks (everything from short term holiday cover, to class helpers, and PR type stuff). Worth getting in touch and seeing if they have something that’s a good fit for you

goingtotown · 06/03/2019 17:34

Helping the kids at my local school with their reading.

ScarletBitch · 06/03/2019 17:41

Air Ambulance!

OrangeJuiceandArmchairs · 06/03/2019 17:47

parkrun

Cookmysock1 · 06/03/2019 17:51

I'm a CAB adviser, did a year as a volunteer then got a job with them for 2 years but was made redundant, I still volunteer as I just love it

Silversky70 · 06/03/2019 17:58

I'd like to help people who can't manage, organise their homes as I'm quite good at it and get a lot of satisfaction from it. I know what a burden it can be for some people when they can't see the wood for the trees regarding laundry, dishes etc.
